Guest guest
Hi Tracy ~ Welcome to our group. I'm Cindi, one of the owners. Welcome to the vegetarian world! Is your family supportive? It makes the transition so much easier when they are understanding and supportive. We have a lot of great recipes in our files section so if you need ideas there's some resources there for you. Again, welcome. Guest guest
Hello Tracy, Welcome aboard. I originally lived in Michigan, so I came from the midwest before we moved to Washington about 20 years ago. Hope you enjoy the vegslimming website I sure have since I found out about it. Guest guest
Welcome. While adopting a vegan diet is a healthier diet, and it is correlated with people with less weights, by itself, it will not lead to weight loss. We all know that, and have gained and lost weight on a vegan diet. Many vegetarain options contain dense calories, and can be high glycemic index foods. We must remain fully aware. In general, try to adopt more live, natural food and avoid processed foods. But eating is a point of a triangle of health. Activity and exercise are just as critical as food. Guest guest
Welcome, Tracy! I grew up in Brunswick, OH (SW of Cleveland) and now live near Atlanta, GA. I was " semi-vegetarian " (ate seafood) for a year when I joined this group. Someone suggested Dr. McDougall. I looked at his website www.drmcdougall.com (he has a free plan there) and read most of his books. I became a believer and have now been almost totally vegan for about 3 months. I was pretty healthy before, but after giving up the animal products (meat, fish, eggs, dairy, etc.), longstanding low back pain went away, as well as sore joints in my hand and shoulder. I've also lost the perpetual stuffiness in my nose I've had for many, many years. In short, I think everyone should be vegan, as Dr. McDougall says so many conditions could be cleared up by giving up meat products rather than ingesting prescription drugs, with their attendant side effects. My big problem is defending my eating choices to my co-workers and extended family (they think I'm a nut). But with all the cancer, diabetes, kidney problems, high blood pressure, etc. they have I wish I could convince them this is the way to go. Unfortunately, they'd rather have their meat! Sorry to get on my soapbox, but hope this encourages someone out there to go whole hog and give up all the meat products (though going gradually may be the way to go, as I did). BTW, I don't miss meat at all and if you live with someone who still eats it, you can eat the starchy foods such as potatoes, rice, etc. (along with veggies) and still be satisfied. Good luck! Coleen Everyone is raving about the all-new Mail beta.
