Guest guest
I just joined a couple days ago. My name is Kristin, I'm 30 years old, married 6 years, no kids, one 4yr old black lab mix named Anna, and we live in Nebraska. I am a vegetarian since Sunday 12/3 when I watched a video that made me sick to my stomach and broke my heart. I vowed then to never have anything " meaty " on my plate or in my mouth ever again. Bleh. The only meat I think I might still eat once in awhile is seafood. I admire those of you who are vegan. Maybe someday I can do it too but I'm starting by cutting out all beef, pork, and poultry products from my diet. I do have a problem though, well he's not so much a problem, but my husband is probably the exact opposite in all he eats is meat. So we will have some challenges up ahead but I think we can make it work. He works second shift so I really don't have to cook for him so he's pretty much on his own. It works out well so far. Anyway, that's all the " meat talk " I will do. I just wanted you all to know where I was coming from and what brought me here. I hope to learn a lot from you and get to know you all a little better. Hugs, Kristin
Guest guest
Hi Kristin! I'm Whitney, I'm with you, that's when I became a vegetarian on 10/29 because I read Fast Food Nation & then watched some PETA videos, and that was all she wrote. I decided if I wouldn't eat my dog, I'm not eating any other animals either. I'm lucky in that regard, I always hated seafood so it's not a sacrifice! Guest guest
Welcome Kristin, Various degrees of vegetarianism. Those who allow seafood but no other forms of meat are called pesco vegetarians. My husband is a vegetarian who cheats, so he'll eat meat if the opportunity arrises, and maybe that's the compromise you have to make with your husband. Mine will order when out in a restaurant and from time to time will bring something into the house that he cooks up hiself. Right now he's joined LA Weightloss and is allowing chicken in his diet while he loses weight on their program. I find it rather insulting as I raise hens for eggs. Start off with a vegetarian cookbook and introduce new dinners. There are some good recipes in the files here. Also try www.fatfree.com Good luck with your new lifestyle...Cheryl , " Kristin " <bluzgrrl wrote: > > I just joined a couple days ago. Guest guest
Hi Kristin ~ Welcome! Glad you're posting. Welcome to vegetarianism! There are many ways to make meals that both you and the non-veg members of your household will enjoy. It's going to take some trials, but it will be worth it. Plus if you are able to get some non meat meals into your hubby, all the better for his health too! Make sure you check out our recipe files for ideas too. Guest guest
Hello Kristin, I just joined a couple days ago. Did you know that it is now predicted that it is now projected that by 2040 that most fish will become virtually extinct from our biosphere from being used as a food source, and the effects on our shared biosphere will be global in impact with the lose of all these species? We have learned that fish are far more intelligent than once thought. They feel pain no less differently than we do, learn and remember. The consumption of fish, while some talk about the benefits of fish oil also introduces heavy metals and other toxin into our system.. If you'd be interested on information about any of these areas, I would be glad to share them with you. I wish you luck and hope your transition to a vegan or vegetarian life goes well. I recently added a clinical study on the relationship of a vegan diet to weight loss to our file section, and pictures of myself after loosing over 80 pounds on a Vegan diet. Guest guest
Hey Zen ~ In consideration for the vegetarians in the group, can you please ask questions like this offlist? Or at the very least put " non-vegetarian post " in the subject line. But I'd prefer them to be asked offlist as to avoid any future threads like what happened last week. Thanks, Cindi, acting as co-owner zen white <zenbaby7 wrote: Cheryl, On the LA Weightloss can you have dark meat chicken or just the white? ecent Activity 6 New Members 1 New Photos 1 New Links Visit Your Group
