Guest guest
Hello Jen, Good luck in reaching your target. I'm going to lose 15 pounds by mid March - I need to to help my blood pressure realise there's no fun in being so high. I know what it's like being the only veggie in the house. I was too at your age, and now decades later I am the only veggie in the house but there is only one other person - my wife, who, cos I do all the cooking, is a de facto veggie until her parents visit. What exercise do you do to help those pounds take a vacation? Geoff , Jennifer Weis <tofukiller84 wrote: > > Hi Everybody! I'm new to the group and thought that I would introduce myself. I'm trying to lose weight now and am looking for some kind of support. I'd like to lose between thirty and forty pounds and run in a 5k this summer... that's about it. I really look forward to being a part of this group! > > Jen > > > > > > >

I really look forward to being a part of this group! Jen Hi Jen, welcome. I don't know what you already know or don't know about loosing weight as a vegetarian. It's the same throughout. I wouldn't focus on the goal. Instead, focus on the process, the life style change. The weight loss will come from a the process itself. Forget about fast weight loss, just enjoy the process. Number 1 goal. Don't eat any empty calories. Ever. No exceptions. Avoid dense calories. Things like dried fruit. No overly processed foods. Eat food like nature made. Never get fooled by foods listed as low fat, dietetic, and such. When they make a highly processed low fat food, they generally add tons of fat. And I love the 5K. I don't know what you've done on running yet. As we say, run a 1/4 walk a quarter. Running is my second favorite thing in the world. However, while your heavy, best to alternate it with another activity. And, regardless of what you hear, don't skip a day. Every day young lady. At the national weight control registry, the only real study of people that have lost weight and kept it off, the people over time that keep it off workout every day. The push iron several times a week. And they eat lots of healthy foods, like salads without dressing. If you'd like to write privately about developing your running while losing weight, let me know. Guest guest
Jen, welcome to the group! Where in western NY are you? I'm in central ny, in Syracuse, and, yeah, there just aren't many vegetarians (or vegans!) around here! I moved here from Boston, which is very veg-friendly, and its been quite the culture shock. Good luck on your 5k!...that is a (very) long term goal of mine too. ~Rachael , Jennifer Weis <tofukiller84@ ...> wrote: > > Hi Everybody! Guest guest
Hey Geoff, How's it going? Thank you for the encouragement in losing the weight. It can sometimes be a nuisance to be the only veggie around. This morning my boyfriend's extended family had a breakfast at the Quality Inn and they had the buffett, and there wasn't a huge selection for them, let alone me. But, I've gotten used to things like that after almost two years. I haven't touched meat and that's something that I pride myself in. I was actually sort of amused the other day at work. We had a luncheon at work and a girl that I've only talked to on a couple of occassions in the year and a half that I've been there asked if I was a vegetarian. I told her yes and she asked if I ate animal bi-products. So we talked about it and I'd mentioned something about what gelatin was made of and she's like " eww, that's disgusting " . So I said to her that it wasn't any worse than eating meat and she told me it was. How is eating gelatin or other biproducts worse than eating an animal's flesh? Odd reasoning, but whatever. My boyfriend is supportive for the most part about my vegetarianism. Sometimes he'll tease me about it, but he knows it's part of my lifestyle and he'll even try some of my meatless dishes. I've been going to Bally's Total Fitness and doing a lot of cardio, the eliptical, treadmill, some weights to tone... bikes, that type of thing. It's been working pretty well. I can already feel a difference in my body. Thanks for the support! How long have you been a vegetarian for? Jen Geoff Nelder <geoffnelder wrote: Hello Jen, Good luck in reaching your target. Guest guest
Hey Bob, Thank you for the advice. I haven't ran in a 5k since I was in high school which actually wasn't that long ago. I know what I have to do in order to get there, I just have to be strict with myself. The hardest thing though is to get my asthma under control, and of course, with the holiday here just trying to find the time to be strict with myself and to constantly work at my goal. I've got about six months to really get in shape and I want it to be worthwhile for myself. If I have any questions I will definitely ask. Thanks! Jen " Bob C. " <comarow wrote: Hi Everybody!
