What cup size are you?

I'm kickstarting my vegan slimming (need to lose 15 pounds by March

or my doctor threatens to turn me into a druggie to lower my

bloodpressure) by only eating raw foods for a week or so.

I am using the online Fitday.com program recommended by Laura -

cheers to Laura and sorry, Rachael who wanted me to use Sparkpeople

(how do you stop Sparkpeople filling my inbox with spam every hour?).

One prob I have with Fitday is many of the measurements are in Cups.

Now I look in my cupboards and I have cups ranging from egg to

grapefruit size. I tore apart the help in Fitday but couldnt find

what volume they used for Cup. Is there a standard cup in the US?

Help?

BTW eating raw food might sound slimming - NO bread, biscuits,

butter, marg, and so on - but a cup of mixed nuts is nearly 900 cals!

Hence my need to know how big a cup is! Also those dried fruit like

dates and figs (48 cals each).

To rein in my ravenous appetite I inherited (thanks mum) I have some

vegan Hoodia tabs. Take one with a glass of water and it makes you

feel full - eventually, or it could be the water, temporarily. Worth

a try anyway as it is not a synthetic messing around with your head

chemicals method, but the insides of the Hoodia cactus plant.

Only two days into my raw food diet, and I don't miss cooked food so

far - just as well cos I'm still cooking veggie meals for my

dominatrix wife :)

A week of diet change will make no significant difference. Three months

provides you

with the opportunity to make life style changes. Reducing blood pressure, along

with

better lifetime food choices, requires exercise. You can't do three months of

exercise in a day,

it simply requires daily consistency. And, if you don't sweat, you aren't

goiing to accomplish much at all.

Consider adding resistance training. I'd be welcomed to explain the reasons for

that privately if you wish.

There's no magic pills or herbs that will do anything. Even Ephedria, which

helped people who worked out

by encouraging them to work out longer and harders beneift was simply because

people exercised more.

It wasn't a magic pill, it is the exercise.

All good points, Bob.

I should have mentioned that I am a journalist for a cycling mag, and

so although I spend a lot of time sitting at a PC (I write novels

too, in the evenings when not asking people what their cupsize is), I

spend an hour or two a day cycling up the Welsh hills near here. At

least once a month I cycle 70 - 80 miles a day for 4 or 5 consecutive

days. In between I do a bit of resistance work and swimming but

admittedly not much. I'll work on it, thanks.

For liquid measure, a cup in the US is 8 fluid ounces.

However, because of volume differences with solid foods,

you are better off using a kitchen scale to weigh things

out in grams. The nutrition labels will have both cups

and grams, with the latter being far more accurate. An

example would be a serving of cereal listed as 3/4 cup

or 55 grams. But another cereal, such as a puffed rice,

may only weigh 30 grams for the same volume.

Hope this helps,

-Erin
