Guest guest
This just a vent. Maybe hoping someone else out there has a miracle cure? lol Why is it, that after years of reading about nutrition, serious health issues that taught me more, and I really do know the correct way to eat do I consistently sabotage myself??? Often making myself more sick?? Knowing better and doing it anyway?! I know for instance to eat as " close to the earth " as possible. i.e., no processed anything. Whole foods. Lots of water, fruits and veggies. No white starch products. Whole grains. Avoid caffeine, sugars, processed imitation " meats " , real meats, fried foods, the " white " foods (breads, rice, etc) blah blah blah However, what I want to eat, especially in the middle of a fibro flare, is junk. Sigh. Fake meats, chocolate, fried anything, fast easy meals, sugar, salt. Even though I enjoy many whole foods, when I am craving foods, it is never " I just can't stop thinking about cauliflower so I ended up binging on it " . No. No Way. The worse I feel the more crap I eat. grrrrrrr. Ok I think I am done. Thank you for reading! I will go back to lurking for awhile. Guest guest
Hang in there Kym. No miracle cures, no easy way to turn off the craving for those good foods. Just try to liven them up a bit. We buy the flavored bottled water 0 calories so I substitute that a lot for regular water. But if I drink a bottle of the flavored stuff I'll drink 2 glasses of the normal water. I think we all know the right foods to eat and those to avoid to lose weight. The biggest problem is willpower. My father just returned from a trip. He brought me back a bag of salt water taffy and 2 smallish slabs of fudge. One is white - maybe its vanilla? - and the other is chocolate peanut butter. I nibbled a little bit of that one just to make sure. My husband has chopped them into smaller pieces, put them in a zip lock bag, and then into the freezer. I can have one piece every 2 days. The thing is not to deny ourselves the things we like and crave, but to control overeating them. Having the occasional treat is OK. Just keep thinking to the end result, the weight or clothing size that you desire to be. Keep thinking about that when you feel yourself wanting to splurge on junk food. Give yourself a tiny taste if you must, then remember how you will look this summer in a cute swimming suit. I'm getting closer all the time and focusing on my end goal which I hope to achieve by May 20. Its really hard to pass up having a chocolate bar each day, but I keep telling myself I'm so close now and don't want to go back up. As yucky as it sounds if you're really going bad at wanting to submit to your craving, eat a cup of broccoli and drink a glass of water. You'll feel less hungry and maybe that craving will go away. PS - does anyone know how many calories in those salt water taffies? I think they'll survive awhile without going into the freezer. I'm OK as long as I don't open the bag! Good luck! Guest guest
Hey Kym ~ Sorry to hear about your frustration. Unfortunately, no such thing as a miracle cure, darn it! :-) One thing you have to remember is that if you have a really bad day, eating-wise, each day is a new one to start fresh. So if you pig out one day, don't give up; accept/realize it and start your next day off better. If it's a couple days, same thing, don't just throw in the towel; you have the option to change it each morning as the day begins. Make sure you're not depriving yourself of things you enjoy too or else you will have those uncontrollable cravings. The whole thing about eating better and losing weight is changing your habits and regular eating habits, not going with a " diet " that you'll be off once you lose weight and that you feel you have to completely avoid certain comfort foods. We normally have a couple of chocolate bars in the house so we can have a piece every other day or so; that way we aren't craving it and eat a lot of it when given the opportunity. Only a couple times have we sat and ate the whole thing in one sitting and considering how we used to eat, we're ok with that! :-) Those are a couple things that keep me on track after I've strayed. I totally understand about the vicious cycle though. Just bear down, it will pass and don't give up on your goals, or yourself. Cindi Kymberlee <kymberlee wrote: This just a vent. Many substances in foods are addictive. When our body craves things, it is not reasonable to assume someone will ignore such overriding bio chemical signals. The longer you can stay away, the easier it becomes. Don't give it all up at once. Give up fried foods first. Bob
