Guest guest
I decided to ditch virtually all processed foods four weeks ago, and consume raw vegan food. The only processed foods have been a tablespoon of hummus or tahini each day. Each day starts with overnight soaked porridge oats with a few dried fruit. Raw fruit during the day. A palm (not handfull) of mixed nuts with banana and apple for lunch. Dinner has mostly been a large bowl or plate of freshly shredded greens, reds and yellows (you can guess those salad and veg ingredients!) with seeds and tossed in Extra Virgin Olive oil with lemon juice and topped with the tablespoon of hummus or tahine. My carnivorous wife likes the look of my dinnerplate so much she swipes some for her plate. I often cannot finish my salad dinner - I'm full by half way through. I am never hungry. I drink white tea (no milk) and black filter coffee but mostly 2 litres of water daily. I take a vegan vitamin and mineral supplement. This was partly to work towards reducing my scarily high blood pressure of 155 / 95 for the last year - no medication. And to reduce my podge. And, as Bob rightly insists, to work towards a lifestyle eating style permanent change where the only food I eat is for nutrition. As always I continue to hurl myself around on my bicycle and whiz around in the gym - walk a min of 2 miles a day - sometimes 10. After 4 weeks, I feel great. My blood pressure is now 127 / 79 and I have lost 2 pounds a week. I think I will be re-introducing some cooked foods - soups, a few potatoes - and I know carrots are better when cooked - nutritionally. But apart from the occasional social food event, I can't see me indulging in processed food again. I recommend it. Guest guest
Congratulations on your weight loss and BP improvements! Tomatoes are another food for which cooking helps " unlock " (for want of a better word) the nutritional benefits. -Erin www.zenpawn.com/vegblog p.s. - With that subject heading, I was waiting to read of some side-effects, like bloating or something. I can honestly say I have no bad side effects. On the other hand my wife has often said that I have far too much energy than is good for her... Guest guest
Geoff, I'm saving your raw foods guide, as I think that will be the direction I get to eventually. (Was vegetarian approx. 1 year, now vegan for about 5 mos.). I finally dropped a couple of pounds -- I think the holidays may have had something to do with not losing, also eating out several times a week (now limited to once a week or so). Thanks again, Coleen No need to miss a message. Get email on-the-go with Mail for Mobile. Get started.
