I think it would be interesting to list what we ate for the day

before, giving recipes or links to recipes. I hope that all of us

would be mature enough not to be rude if someone lists things that

they wouldn't eat or if someone " confesses " to a bit of binge

eating. So, to get things rolling:

What I ate on Monday, February 26, 2007

Breakfast

2 slices whole wheat bread

1 TBL Fleischman's margarine made with olive oil

Lunch

1 cup mixed oriental type veggies (frozen)

Red Lentils with Crispy Garlic and Onion (leftovers)

http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/recipes/vegetarian/redlentilsgarlic.ht

ml

1 cup brown rice

Afternoon snack

1 small apple

Dinner

1 Amy's Vegetable Lasagna (frozen dinner)

1 large salad with lettuce, cherry tomatoes, cucumber green bell

pepper, baby carrots, mushrooms and 1/2 a black skinned avocado

w/South Beach Diet Italian dressing

Snack

~1 cup nopalitos

It was my DH's birthday but he's still trying to get over the illness

he's had for the past few weeks (been to the doctor, needs to go

back) and he didn't feel like eating so it was fend for yourself

night. I'm not going to say how many calories it was. (I do know,

though.)

This is an good idea - although remember all of us are on somewhat

different diets and therefore I would suggest that each of us stated

what regime we were on in each posting of the daily menu. (eg.

WeightWatchers, SouthBeach, McDougall, Fuhrman, or simply LowFat,

SmallerPortions, etc. or a combo thereof.

I indeed hope too that none of us would be rude :) - but not quite sure

what you mean by

>if someone lists things that they wouldn't eat . . .

because, everyone must remember: This is a *LOW-FAT VEGETARIAN* group.

I think all might understand if someone confessed to a fat binge once in a

while, but if it continued it would be hard not to warn someone that

something they were eating exceeded what low-fat means. (We are here to

help, after all.) Further, we could hardly be silent if confronted by menus

which

included me*t and/or links to me*t recipes. Courtesy is therefore needed on

both sides, and then as you suggest there should be no problem.

On that note <whew! removes moderator hat> I'll see if I can think what I had

yesterday LOL I suspect no one would approve because I was having a strange

day, foodwise. Oh well . . . confession is good for the soul, I guess :) See ya

in a few minutes!!!!!

Thanks for the idea - Let's get rolling! What did YOU guys eat yesterday????

Love, Pat

What I ate Monday 26 February? (I eat very low fat, sugar-free, unrefined grains

-

something close to the McDougall diet.)

Well, yesterday was indeed a weird day. Practically all veg, except for lunch

and

dinner grains - no legumes at all. I wasn't hungry so pleased myself and didn't

think I'd be asked to report on my food LOL So here ya go -

Breakfast:

1/3 cup steel-cut oats (soaked overnight), with half a sliced banana, a few

raisins,

stevia, 1 Tbsp ground flaxseed, cinnamon, nutmeg, rice milk.

half-cup rice milk carob 'cocoa' with stevia.

Lunch:

Leafy salad (half a head of romaine, cucumber, apple, celery, onion) with

basamic and

lemon juice dressing.

1 carrot and 1 parsnip, sliced, with lemon juice

Green beans cooked with tomato, mushrooms and onion.

Dinner:

Potato and Cabbage Soup (home-made) - not sure how much (1-1/2 cups?)

Wholemeal bread - 1 slice.

Other: green or herbal tea throughout day and evening as usual.

I'll do better today!

Love, Pat :)

I guess I was flashing back to my days reading alt.support.diet. Those

folks can be brutal about criticizing someone's choices. Posting what

you eat there can cause you to get nitpicked to death.

I think that there was nothing at all bad with what you had. I think

that even low-fat vegetarians can get hung up and worry about not

getting enough protein. As long as you didn't feel deprived, you did

good.

Oh dear :( Now that would be a bad experience. It'd drive most of us

straight to the fridge!

Actually, I think it could work rather nicely here :) Especially if every now

and then we added whether or not we had lost weight (or maintained it)

in the last week or whatever.

Also, some people (well, a few :) ) are not trying to lose weight here, or

even struggling to maintain a weight loss; instead, they are working

towards better health. some might be working to lower their blood pressure

or to control diabetes or to ward off aches and pains that are helped by a

good diet - and the list goes on. It would be good to hear from them too,

to know what works for them and what doesn't and what diet changes have

been most effective.

Me, I'm trying to drop some unwanted pounds that sneaked up on my while

I was thinking of other things :) (They DO that, if you're not careful. I

wasn't.)

AND I'm hoping not to acquire the diabetes that runs in the family. And a few

other things that I hope diet will put right. Miracle cures, that's what I want,

plus eternal youth and a million bucks and ---whoops, sorry LOL

Okay. Thanks again for starting this up. Huge hugs.

You're right. I was thinking I should have had what I usually have - more

grains and of course (knee-jerk reaction) some beans or lentils. What

that adds up to is more protein, even though I know I shouldn't be hung

up about it. Isn't early training insidious! Thanks, hon.

What I ate yesterday Tuesday 27 Feb. (Oh dear - I should have done this last

night - let's

see . . . )

DIET STYLE: very low fat, low sugar, unrefined grains (sort of like McDougall or

similar

peeps. Actually, I was looking at Neal Barnard (the PCRM chappie) briefly

yesterday, and I

guess that's my eating regime too. Yeah, I'll call it Neal Barnard's diet. He's

cute.

Breakfast:

steel-cut oats (soaked overnight) with a few raisins, spices, 1/2 banana, splash

rice milk

slice Boston Brown Bread (homemade)

soy milk carob 'cocoa' - 1/2 cup

Lunch:

okra and potato curry - (http://beanvegan.blogspot.com)

1/2 cup brown basmati rice

1/2 cup red lentil dhal (spiced in the Indian way)

small salad of tomato, cucumber, onion with spices

Dinner (always a light meal when eaten at home):

Borscht

2 slices homemade sourdough bread

half an orange (Why only half? I dunno. Just shared.)

Other: green tea, herb tea throughout day/evening.

As you see, I was ready to enjoy my lunch this time :)

Well, I didn't eat 'so little food', but no, not hungry at all. The complex

carbs are very

filling, for one thing :) Dunno about other people, but I haven't been hungry

(as opposed

to enjoying the meal when it comes) since I started eating more whole grains.

(If I eat fat,

of course, it disturbs my digestion - and that can feel like hunger I suppose to

some.)

I don't feel hungry between meals, but since I have a flexible

schedule, I make sure I am hungry before I eat breakfast, lunch,

snack and dinner.

The portions are fairly generous, so it's enough food.
