Just wondering. Myself, I like them very much (although I didn't used to do so), but I am thrilled that I don't have to feel apologetic for eating them Know what you mean about the leftovers. It looks as if we will be munching on our recent cabbage for a while to come. And the lentils. And the bean pie (red dragon pie) has enough for the two of us again. Meanwhile, I have cauliflower and broccoli to do something with - and somehow enough meals in the day to eat it all up. Cauli for breakfast? Who knows - it might go well with the oats. (Relax, just kidding.) You are very nicely disciplined, I see, on your slimming diet. I have to leave certain foods well alone lest I overindulge. As long as I don't taste them I don't want them. Guest guest
Hi Pat ~ Well, it's been a deliberate decision in that we are eating what's being grown locally, but we do also just enjoy the cruciferous veggies! We get a box of produce delivered from a local organic farm every Monday evening. Last week's box contained: about 8 adorably small pink lady apples, 2 large oranges, 2 grapefruit, a large yellow onion, a bunch of baby chard, a bunch of baby kale, a head of romenesco broccoli, about 6-7carrots, a head of leaf lettuce and some golden beets. The company posts what they're sending a couple days before so we scour through our books to find compatible recipes and pick up whatever else we may need over the weekend. This next Monday will bring: carrots, chard, kale, avocados, lemons, pears, apples, cilantro, leaf lettuce and one other veggie I can't recall right now! It's nice to know where the veggies are coming from and support their program. We just started back up on it a couple weeks ago; we had been getting it from them last year but stopped due to financial rearranging but the new year has brought a salary increase for me, so we're back on! Yep, leftovers forever it seems like sometimes! That's one thing about veg recipes, they tend to yield such a large amount of food! Luckily I like bringing leftovers to work for lunch; my dear partner Kymberli though, she's trying to like leftovers, just not as crazy about them as me....yet. I think with us cooking more healthy meals it's helping. Both our bodies appreciate the healthier meals and it does make a difference in how we feel (of course!). I try to be disciplined although some days the menu hasn't been so slimming; but hey, everyday is a new start right? :-) But overall I'm much happier with our eating habits than I was, say 6 months ago. And much happier almost 30 pounds lighter. Guest guest
>. . . it's been a deliberate decision in that we are eating what's being grown locally >but we do also just enjoy the cruciferous veggies! We're doing more and more of that each year, although it's tricky in the winter here (Ontario). So the result is a lot of roots and crucifers. Luckily we like them - and have myriad ways of preparing them - so all's well. My downfall is bell peppers, which of course have to be shipped a long way. Likewise bananas, of course - don't have many banana plantations around here - and oranges. But, fruit aside, we do our best. It's a sort of compromise between eating well/healthily/organically and watching not to leave too heavy a footprint. A light touch here, a stomp there *sigh* > We get a box of produce delivered from a local organic farm every Monday evening. We used to get a box delivered too, but the man who ran the operation is no longer doing that (not sure what happened - we were away for a little over a year and everything changed). In any event, it wasn't all his own farm - he shopped in Toronto to find what was available and of course much organic produce is shipped in from all sorts of places. Result: good organic food but . . . > I try to be disciplined although some days the menu hasn't been so slimming .. . . Your menus look pretty good to me > But overall I'm much happier with our eating habits than I was, say 6 months ago. And much happier almost 30 pounds lighter. 30 pounds - that's fantastic! Good for you!!!!!! Well, obviously, whatever you're doing is working - and you have to take full marks for that! I found (as if I hadn't realized all along that it was happening!) that I'd gained 10 kg./22 lb. over about 18 months. Couldn't believe it, thought it was _much_ less, until I checked my old diary and tried on some spring clothes . . . So at New Year - 2 January exactly - I decided to drop it off. I've lost 6.5 kg (14.3 lbs) so a way to go yet, and of course it gets slower as one goes along. Nevertheless . . . . LOL Oh well, it took nearly a year and a half to put on, I guess I can't expect it to disappear in a few weeks, eh? Meanwhile, I'm not suffering over the food. Best love, Pat
