Like my answers on the questionaire stated (think i spelled that wrong) im a total newb to Vegetarianism, just starting out and no one but myself and my daughter are doing this...Im not only wanting to do this for ethical reasons but ive got a whole lot of health issue going on including diabetes, heart condition, thyroid, past stroke, Migraines, blood clotting disorder etc....and am VERY overweight... In the past ive tried the very popular and very unhealthy high fat low carb diets, no veggie diets, grapefruit only diets, you name it ive tried it....but i want to totally change my way of living, not just my way of eating..so anyway to make a very long story short, im glad i found this place...and cant wait to meet yall.... Guest guest
Hi Wendy and welcome to our group! Nice to have you here and welcome to being a vegetarian! It's really important to eat a lot of fresh fruit & vegetables and whole grains and try to avoid a lot of heavy items like cheese, pasta, potatoes, bread, etc. All things are good in moderation of course, it's just really easy to fall into a pattern of not eating a healthy vegetarian diet and it's best to start out the " right " way. :-) We have many types of members here, some new to veg like you and some that have been eating this way for years, or decades! I fall in between that, been vegetarian almost 3 years now. We have a lot of great recipes and information in our files so please make sure you check those out and feel free to post any and all questions you may have! And you're right, you have to make a conscious decision in changing your whole way of eating and looking at food, eating healthy is not just a diet or a temporary thing! :-) Again, welcome! Guest guest
Howdy to you to, Wendy - and a welcome from me too to this group! Good that you've decided to become veggie - always a good move, I think LOL Cindi has advised you well - and I'll just add that when you do eat pasta, bread, grains such as rice, etc., you'd do well to eat wholewheat pasta, wholewhea bread, brown rice, etc. etc. Not only are they better for you, but for various reasons they are less likely to put weight on you. Indeed many members here are on a high complex carbohydrate eating regime and find it very beneficial for both health and weight loss. This is of course a low- fat group, as you know, too. But of course, being veggie isn't just about that - it's about the wonderful fruits and vegetables! Enjoy them - and we have some great recipes in the Files. If you need help, please let us know, okay? Best, Pat (Co-Owner of Vegetarian Slimming with Cindi)
