Guest guest
From a theoretical point of view being a vegetarian makes perfect sense. For those of us who are over 40 (almost 50!); feel overwhelmed with the demands of life (kids, work, spouse, etc.); where on earth does one get the motivation and energy just to get going with a weight loss program!!! Did I mention I have depression too? Every time I go to the doctor she tries to get me on more anti-depressants or mood altering drugs. I usually am made to wait 2 hours to see her, then in 5 minutes she has silenced my concerns with a new prescription. ( I throw them out - I refuse to be sedated, drugged and silenced!!) Every day at meal times I include fresh salads, assorted bean salads, sliced fruits, etc. I don't buy goodies unless it is a birthday so my diet on a daily basis has no sweets! I don't watch t.v. with bags of potato chips, drink litres of pop (or consume it rarely) nor do I include processed foods in the diet. I do walk and move around!! I am considered overweight (40 pounds) and my youngsters constantly comment on this. The image of a couch potato may come to mind for some, yet, I am always on the go with the demands of a household, dog, and a job, there is no time! So in summary the vision of a rubenesque woman on the sofa watching t.v. with bon bons is simply not true!!! Is there anyone out there in the same plight, who can identify with this
Guest guest
I am just as active. I RUN my household! I am a mother or 2 elementary kids, a Realtor (full-time), a house keeper, wife, counselor, etc. I have 2 pets that no one else can clean up after nor themselves! ha ha. I am too about 40 pounds over weight and I have no thyroid function at all (on synthroid) and am always on the run. I hear it from my kids too, but due to my thyroid, I have to diet twice as hard, work out twice as hard in order to lose any weight. I am looking forward to my new vegetarian diet and hope that it will help me. Cheers!!! bryans30 <bryans30 wrote: From a theoretical point of view being a vegetarian makes perfect sense. Guest guest
Hi AB and any other folks struggling to fit in the time to do weight loss, etc. A few years ago, I had the good fortune to have a dietician working with me. And one thing she taught me to do was to write down every single thing I ate (which took time!) and to write down the time I ate it, as well as what I was doing and what mood I might be experiencing. (ticked off, happy, celebrating, etc.) She said this would help me get some clues as to why I might be eating certain things, etc. Then, she went through my journal entries to make recommendations. I moved to a different city, but I still have some memory of what she taught me. Unfortunately, it was not a vegan diet, so I am going to have to substitute beans and other proteins to get the b vitamins, and iron, etc. Maybe we can do a daily email and be honest about what we ate, etc. and this might help one another? Are you in? AB <annebondurant wrote: I am just as active. I RUN my household! Guest guest
Being honest with myself? Ouch!! :-) Samantha Maybe we can do a daily email and be honest about what we ate, etc. and this might help one another? Are you in?
Guest guest
I too have been to 2 different nutrionists and yes I have journaled what I have eaten but it still hasn't helped with the weight loss...what I need to do is become a gym rat again! I went from 220 just after having T down to 175 and went back up to 210 since I moved and don't have access to the gym. I do have a treadmill at home, but it's not the same as the elliptical, and doing weights. My diet is ok, it could be better like avoiding the food I'm allergic to (corn and cheese are my downfalls)... Jackie K. Guest guest
I just started lifting weights at the gym (for the last 3 weeks) I've already noticed a change in my arms. I haven't measured myself, yet, but I have noticed a slight change in the fit of my clothes. I wonder if weightlifting might be a key component in weight loss in women over 40? Walking and cycling just isn't doing it for me anymore! Jackie <jhascek wrote: I do have a treadmill at home, but it's not the same as the elliptical, and doing weights. Jackie K.
