So those helped me make the decision to go Vegan. Right now McDougall¹s is the plan I¹m following, but that¹s not to say I won¹t tweak it if it doesn¹t seem to give me the results I want. Often I find a plan works to get 50 pounds off and then stalls. All weight loss journeys hit plateaus if you have lots of weight to lose ... But my plateaus seem to last 9 months! LOL If that happens, I tweak it or try something else. > >> I think there are many here on McDougall - am I right, group? >> >> Best love, Pat > I¹d be interested in knowing that too ... Any other McDougallers out here? Anna
Guest guest
Hi again! > I have read Esselstyn¹s book, The China Study, books by John Robbins and > others. Those are all good books - but I don't have McDougall's cookbook - maybe I should say I don't have it yet - although I did borrow it from the libaray a few months back. Very good ideas in there! Hmmmm. As for the decision to go Vegan, John Robbins really does help with that, doesn't he! But that alone, as you will know only too well, isn't quite enough to lose weight - if that were true there'd be no chubby vegans and there, of course, are. > As you¹re reading a diet plan you may > think to yourself, ³I could never do this² or ³this is something I think I > could do.² It was as simple as that for me. Yes, I know what you mean. No good having something that insists you eat something to which you have a strong aversion. Some plans, however, just resonate with one as being, well, right. > Oh I have tried NUMEROUS programs over the years . . . LOL Me too - I even tried the Fatkins diet way back in the 'seventies when I had something like 25 pounds to lose. It did work, I have to admit, but at what cost I wonder (even though I rarely ate much in the way of fat). I swore I'd never do something so foolish again and I haven't! I used Barnard/McDougall to lose some unwanted pounds recently - and moved to Fuhrman when I stalled. That did the trick in no time!!! > . . . as I¹ve battled weight my > whole life. Right now McDougall¹s is the plan I¹m following, but that¹s not > to say I won¹t tweak it if it doesn¹t seem to give me the results I want. Yes, it's sensible and healthy, so good for you. And it's all very well to be told that everyone hits a plateau - which is probably true - but sitting on (heh heh) weight you want OFF is not a happy experience. Thanks sooooo much for telling us about your decision - I really appreciate it. And I know there are others here who really NEED to hear about how people like yourself choose their weightloss plans. Huge hugs for that generosity! And good luck with the rest of your weight loss! You can do it, eh? Love, Pat
Guest guest
Hello again -- back to group (got too busy for awhile). I was vegan (McDougall) for a year, but didn't feel well, found out my B-12 levels were low. At the same time I was reading " Good Calories Bad Calories " saying basically that Atkins was right. I decided to go back to being regular vegetarian and immediately started feeling better, more energy, etc. I was eating too many high-glycemic carbs and not enough protein, apparently. I'm looking into South Beach to see if it's possible to do that as a vegetarian (Atkins obviously won't work for vegetarians). Any suggestions, anyone? Guest guest
I use fat-free soy milk on my morning cereal, and it's got B12 in it. But even if you don't have that, most sources say you'd have to be on your plan for 3 years before you'd have to worry about taking a supplement. Sorry to hear that wasn't your experience. While there are plenty of ways to get B12 without consuming animal products, I am glad that you're feeling better and I hope you find the plan that works for you.
