Guest guest
i'd like to say thanks for the welcome. i've cooked three vegetarian meals this week including potato, carrot and zucchini patties with rice. My son loves his vegies and these were a smash hit my hubby didn't even realise all he was eating was vegies..lol. He thought it was a good idea to stock up more on our vegie intake. i'll see if i can find the recipe again if anyone wants it. i know that people have probably have already answered this and i hope i'm not asking a really dumd question but what reasons do you have for being vegetarian either raised or chose later in life? thanks Marie
Guest guest
Hi Marie, Personally, I¹m trying to outlive my parents! Dad died at 61, and mom at 70. After reading ³The China Study² and other books, and learning of the link between consuming animal products and many of our Western diseases, I thought it would be a good time to give them up. So I¹m a vegan. And because I¹m trying to lose weight, I¹ve gone fat-free as well (at least, no added fat ‹ obviously some fat occurs naturally in plant foods). How about you? Oh yes, please! We loooooove to get recipes here! Especially good, healthy low-fat slimming recipes - since most of us are either trying to lose a little weight (or a lot) or trying to maintain their current weight loss. The patties sound absolutely delicious!!! Best love, Pat ---- Dr Patricia M. Guest guest
I didn't see if anyone answered your question yet. Here's my answer: to get into better health. My weight is an issue, but I also wanted to decrease my cholesterol, eat more fruits and vegetables, and eat fewer refined carbohydrates. A healthy vegetarian diet is the key. willow2320003 <mgjhalls Saturday, December 1, 2007 2:30:55 AM thanks for the welcome i know that people have probably have already answered this and i hope i'm not asking a really dumd question but what reasons do you have for being vegetarian either raised or chose later in life? thanks Marie ______________________________\ ____ Be a better sports nut! Guest guest
I became a vegetarian because I didn't want animals dying for my food. I figure there's plenty of food to go around that nothing had to die because of me. Guest guest
Anne; I, too, am on low fat foods but occasionall eat Avacados and othr partiularlyy vigh nutrician fats. Since i use mostley frozen or fresh vegs I find that I do need a bit extra fat to keep the colon in good condition so use a bit of evoo to balance and keep digestivrr tact lubricated so to speak. Try to include about a TBs spread through the day. Lee
Guest guest
I'm new here too. Also losing some weight. About 50 pounds since the end of January. And pretty much staying on a less than 15% fat diet. But every so often I like to have a high fat meal. I just posted this recipe on another site. recipe for a good tasting high fat content very filling sprout soup for a cold day I take a mixture of seeds and soak them for about 12 hours and then put them to the air for about 24 hours, then grind with a nut butter grinder and add just a little water, and then very slowly heat to about 185 degrees. The seeds I use in the order of most to least include sunflower seeds, quinoa, mung beans, pine nuts, wild rice, mustard seeds, pepper corns, and cilantro seeds. I most of the time add lightly steamed broccoli spears about half way through cooking, but chopped shiitake mushrooms added for the total cook time also works. Guest guest
> I'm new here too. Also losing some weight. About 50 pounds since > the end of January. That's fantastic, Lester. Did you follow a particular weight-loss regimen (eg. Fuhrman, MacDougall, Ornish, etc.) to lose weight, or did it just happen all on its own ? > And pretty much staying on a less than 15% fat > diet. Excellent. This is a low-fat group! > But every so often I like to have a high fat meal. I just > posted this recipe on another site. Well, this IS, as I say, a low-fat group, so high-fat recipes are not really appropriate here, I'm afraid. There must be a lot of seeds in that soup, eh? Thanks for thinking of sending it here, but please remember that, regaradless of our individual idiosyncratic eating preferences from time to time, this is a weight-loss group that advocates low fat. Okay? I'm sure that's no problem for you Btw, I'm mad for mushrooms, so don't tempt me like this LOL Congrats again on the weight loss. Now the trick is, as for everyone, to keep it off - right? Good luck. Chat again soon!!! Best love, Pat (group co-owner with cindi)
