I've heard of this cheez but never tried it. If I ever see it I will :) Thanks

for reminding me

and informing the rest of the tribe here.

I've never found vegan cheez to be especially good, although Tofutti brand works

well for

me in most things cheezy, since I was a die-hard old-country cheese lover until

I

understood about reasons for not eating it at all. I agree that it is best to

wait a couple of

months before trying a fake cheez - and in my experience it is important to have

just a

little in either the cooking or shaved into a sandwich with lots of other

things. That way

there isn't the shock of non-recognition and you really can just 'taste' the

tastiness of the

cheez (which you can think tastes like cheese! LOL) coming through. Delish!

Especially

good is to have a slice in the middle of a sandwich full of lettuce, cucumber,

onion, tomato

and whatever other salad items you might like along with the usual vegan mayo,

mustard,

sauces or whatever. It really makes you feel you're having a treat! (Of course,

since this is a

low-fat slimming group, I mention that I need to check the Nutritional

Information on the

package for fat content per slice - some can be quite high.)

Hmmmmm. Wonder if Cheezly is at Loblaws . . . . Must check next time I go up

there!

Love and hugs, Pat

You are so right, Anna! I used to love cheese, but now I am not tempted by it

at all. I think I'd be sick if I ate any at this point because of all the fat.

There's always some in our fridge for those in the family that do it eat and

I've never been tempted to touched it.

Good luck!

down will certainly help. But if you did decide to quit eating

I¹d already been vegan, but to help with weight loss I went fat-free vegan a

while back, so I would have a slice of bread with my pasta now and then, but

I stopped putting margarine on it. The first couple of days I missed it but

after that I was just fine with it. Recently due to the holidays I was

having a few ‹ shall we say ³less than fat free² days, so I thought what¹s

the difference, I may as well go ahead and have some margarine on my bread.

You know what? I didn¹t like it! It felt like grease on bread to me.

It¹s the same with cheese. I may have missed it for a short time, but no

longer. Now, when I do have an occasional indulgence like pizza, I enjoy it

very much without cheese ‹ even better really, cuz I can really taste the

sauce and all the fresh herbs and veggies.

Tofutti is nice, though definitely not low-fat! LOL And I would agree even

with Cheezly, you don¹t want to use heaps of it not only to keep the fat

and calories down, but it tastes better in small amounts. I find shredding

a bit on a pizza adds a nice touch and a cheesy feel and flavor. And they

do have a super-melting mozzarella variety, but I find the cheddar to be the

best, even on things you would traditionally use mozzarella on. It has more

flavor and is easier to shred. The ones designed to be super-melting tend

to be softer and get a bit pasty when you try to shred them.

The bricks of 'cheddar' aren't so high in fat,

but I didn't like using those. I might try them

again though for those things that you just can't

make without some kind of cheez, homemade or

otherwise. The Tofutti slices are fine - very

much like processed cheese, which doesn't taste

like cheese anyway but will do if there's nothing

else ;)

I'll remember that, if ever I can get the product

here - according to VegForum it isn't in Canada

yet either :(

Thanks for all the good advice. I'll try it next

time we're in the UK - not looking like this

year, though.

Oh! I wasn¹t aware they had blocks of tofutti! The only Tofutti products I

have found here in Australia are the Better Than Cream Cheese, and the Sour

Supreme. They are nice on occasion smeared on a rice and bean burrito, but

not low-fat so I don¹t use them often. I knew they also made ice cream

substitutes, but wasn¹t aware they had a block cheese.

Those are excellent - but I am leary of all the

fat in them so it's a once in a long time kind of

thing for us here. Of course, you don't have to

eat much of it :) but with just two of us to

serve most of the time, the rest can easily go to

waste :(

Their slices are good - and they're individually

wrapped which I think is a hoot when it comes to

processed 'real' cheese, but find very handy for

this soy-based cheez. (And I guess the wrapped

real cheese slices are useful too, of course.)

I've only seen the blocks of Tofutti here once -

and maybe I remember badly and it was really

another brand. Sigggghhhhh. Wishful thinking,

maybe. But the slices DO exist, I am sure - I

have some in the fridge now, although not for my

own consumption.
