Guest guest
We have a mouse in the house. It's probably come in for a warm from the cold winter fields out the back. I havent seen it, just its little black deposits. I've a humane mouse catcher to catch it live but having trouble with bait. It's ignored chocolate, cheese, peanut butter & sugar. It seems to like the silver paper around a choc coin - maybe it has a metal deficiency! Is there a mouse nutritionist in this group? I told my daughter who lives in Manchester, UK. She says they don't have mice cos they're kept away by the rats! She was laughing but but but... Geoff

I keep fancy rats as pets and they absolutely love avocado. I don't know for mice, but perhaps that is the treat that will finally lure your furry little unwanted houseguest into the live trap? Guest guest
Thanks Sparrow, I'm wondering too if I should peel off the instructions on these humane live capture traps. I bet my mouse is reading them and following the ilustrations and then thinking ah hah! LOL More seriously, though . . . if it's straight from the store to your home, it probably doesn't smell like something the mouse wants to trust. And if it's used and has ever caught another creature before, it surely doesn't smell like something your mouse wants to trust. Maybe roll it in the dirt some? Or some similar process to make it smell more natural and organic and mouse-friendly. And wear gloves while you do it so it smells a bit less like you. And then try putting some avocado in it and see if that changes the wee beastie's opinion. Sparrow
Guest guest
I bait ours with wheat, hamster food, etc. You need to find the place that they are eating. A bag of cereal that they've made a hole in, etc. It sometimes takes a bit of moving things around and investigation. Clean up everything else except the immediate area. Vacuum and keep swept the floor in the rest of the room. Put some of whatever they have been eating in the trap. Place it along the wall or shelf that they are frequenting the most, or where they are getting into the house. The trap will need to be there for a few days before they get used to it. Clean up any hiding places close by, like piles of boxes, clothing strewn on the floor, etc. As well as food, they will be looking for bedding and water. Fix any dripping taps or pipes, remove any fabric, cotton, craft materials, etc. that are not in plastic boxes. Also get one of the ultrasonic noise things; it will not make the ones leave that are already in the house, but it will help keep new ones away. Keep in mind that there is probably more than one mouse, so keep checking it daily, even after you have caught the first one. One year we thought we only had one, and we caught 17. Pam (8 so far, at least one more to go . . .) Guest guest
Mice / rats like foil - don't know about the other things that are not working, but that is a way to tell if you have them - seeing foil chewed up. (Had one in drawer I kept foil in many years ago.) , " Geoff Nelder " <geoffnelder wrote: > > We have a mouse in the house.
