I live in eastern Oregon, a 3 hour radius from anywhere else which makes shopping a bit hard. My community is also a ranching community and that makes finding good vegetarian food in our one grocery store that much harder. I have just started my 30th year for the 4th time. I am married to a wonderful soldier, looking at deployment this year. We have 5 children from 4 to 14. I am the only veggie in our household. I was vegetarian through H.S. when I lived with my mother but got away from it when I went to live with my father. When I moved out I was back to vegetarian mainly because meat was too expensive and I don't really enjoy handling or eating it. Meals were not what one would call healthy but they were what they were. As I got older and finished H.S. and what not, I was able to make sure the things I ate were more healthy and not junk food. I am a train-wreck in the kitchen and leave all that fun stuff to my husband. I have been getting in there lately to work on things since he will be gone off and on most of this year and will be gone for apx. 12 months when deployed. His parents are vegetarian too and so he has had a lot of experience cooking for both and gives me a lot of help when things start to look not so tasty. I have one child who if he decides to convert will be able to do so with no problems. He is not a big meat fan either, unfortunately, he is not a big food fan. Some days, I am not sure how he survives..lol. So, that is me, I really look forward to checking out some recipes and learning new ideas and such. I have a goal..2 more jeans sizes and I can get my next tattoo, hopefully by May... Guest guest
Hi everyone... Most people call me Julez... I live in Australia and I'm in my 40's. I've been a vegetarian for between 5 and 6 years only. Both of my children are also vegetarian now by their own choice. I do most of the cooking but my children (teens) cook once a week each. I'm a cook by trade with training in nutrition but find it easier to apply my knowledge to others rather than myself. I had gained a lot of weight in my pre-veg life and can't seem to shake it now and I put this down to bad eating habits more than poor food choices... although I am far from perfect when it comes to my choices at times. I'm hoping that being part of a group of like-minded individuals I will find the motivation in myself to eat better and lose the weight. Thanks... Guest guest
Welcome, Julez. I am also in Australia (an American who moved here 4-1/2 years ago). I went vegan 14 months ago and haven¹t really seen any significant weight loss yet, but I¹m hoping to make better choices myself. Glad to meet you! Anna On 21/4/08 6:03 AM, " J. Guest guest
What a small world! I'm also American but have lived in Australia for a good part of my life so far. I went vegetarian for health and compassionate reasons and it's only now I am thinking it's about time I took action with my weight. I have dreadful eating habits... skipping meals and then eating high-carb meals late at night. I need to change all of that. , Coop <rodstruelove wrote: > > Welcome, Julez. Guest guest
So Pat, what brought you first from the UK to Australia, and then on to Canada? For me, I met my hubby when I bought something from him on ebay and he overcharged me $1! LOL That led to us emailing back and forth, and eventually calling and visiting each other. Guest guest
A sense of adventure - and a couple of jobs - took us to Australia from the USA, actually Retirement brought us 'home' to Canada again. Your story sounds very romantic - love it! Love and hugs, Pat > So Pat, what brought you first from the UK to Australia, and > then on to > Canada? Guest guest
Sounds exciting! I guess our story was a bit romantic, I mean after just a couple of emails we were very much drawn to each other. Then when we started calling each other, we¹d have phone calls that lasted 3 hours! It¹s hard to believe $1 changed my life, but it¹s true. Had he not made the $1 error when he invoiced me, I would have simply paid for the transaction and never thought about it again. That¹s fate, I guess!
