Guest guest
I run into a hard time giving an answer to people who ask me why I am a vegetarian. I just am. I was not necessarily raised this way, we raised beef and pork. When my parents were married we ate me*t. When they divorced, I lived with my mom and she was very into letting me be me. I quit eating me*t and she supported me 150%. When I was in H.S. I lived with my dad for about a year and his attitude was basically, eat whats fixed or starve, they are huge me*t eaters. When I moved out I went back to being a vegetarian, I just wanted to. When I was pregnant with my 4th child I craved me*t which really concerned my husband because he knew I didn't it and after he was born I was back to normal. So, there is no real reason and people don't accept that answer as well as I would like. It's just me, just the way I am. I am so glad my husband understands that and is as supportive as my mother was, of course if he came home and I had blue hair he would not be surprised either. lol. So, just my rambling about there not always being a reason, Jenn
Guest guest
Hi Jean, You have written (and forgive me for truncating your message): > So, there is no real reason and people don't > accept that answer as > well as I would like. Yes it is difficult, isn't it, to explain WHY one is vegetarian if there's no particular event that made all the difference - just (and I say 'just' not in the sense of diminishing it's importance) finding one preferred this way of eating. Maybe ask others WHY they are omnivore? They like the taste? They like - what????? Without making value judgements, I think maybe they can get a clue as to why you and they are so different. One likes it, the other doesn't. Easy. Just like preferring one colour or place to vacation over another, eh? Thanks for writing in. I have run across a lot of people who say they just don't like the taste or the texture or the smell of rotting animal flesh on their plates, but not until now run across someone who can honestly say that they really really don't know. That's a perfectly valid response, of course - *yes* Do you think you will stay with the vegetarian way for a while now???? Whatever, we are so pleased you are with us. Take care! Guest guest
Hi Pat. Yes, I do think I will stay with this. It seems to be me, and my husband is very used to us being this way. We cook large amounts of what I eat and him and the kids use those as sides to their chicken and what not. I am not a great fan of cooking but the rest of the family would not be content to eat rice and beans for every meal all the time so we cook several different dishes and I seem to be getting pretty good. Lol..at least the kids don't complain as much to family and friends about mom's cooking and my 8yo quit refering to ordering pizza as cooking. Guest guest
Hi Jenn - Good for you - you seem to have everything under control, which is to say going as you would wish it to be That's great!! Side dishes, of course, don't need to be just rice and beans, but of course you know that (but I hadda say it, right?? LOL). Huge hugs to you and your family, Pat ---- http://www.care2.com/c2cvegpets (and others listed on http://beanvegan.blogspot.com) " Atrocities are not less atrocities when they occur in laboratories and are called medical research.
