Hi,

My name is Barbara

I live in Austin, Texas now for about 15 years and before that born and

raised in New York

I am in my early 60's

I want to try to balance my diet with more of a vegetarian diet right

now and then gradually add more and more and gradually get my husband on

it also

I do the cooking and even though I am trying to make more healthier

meals, he still goes after all the unhealthy snacks, I have been weaning

off all that and

hopefully he will also as I set an example of what I'm eating

Due to my Cholesterol rising, I need to change my eating habits...so off

we go

Hi Barbara,, as I just told girl, I haven't visited in a while and may not for

another while, but it is late and most have hit the rack for the night, so want

to welcome you. Many years ago I came to realize how important vegetables,

fruits, whole grains, legumes etc are and how dangerous the processed foods can

be many years ago and it has helped me through some bad times to overcome some

immune system problems to a great extent. I have outlasted many of my friends

and that is sad, as I miss them and wish they could have learned what I did.

I think food is as addictive as any drug for some folks! I, too, have a dear

one,,,one of my sons, who, both he and his wife, have no thoughts to make a

change in eating habits and one cannot say much as pushing only causes

resentment...it doesn't help. They think they will live forever no matter what

they eat or do. No one can make another change until they decide they want to

feel better. Be patient with them <G> Sounds like you have the right ideas and

approach.! My kids are finally even doing some of my herb thingies!

My best wishes...Lee

Welcome, Barbara - nice to have you here. Good that you are going to make the

transition to vegetarianism. It's not so difficult, you know, but if you want to

lower your cholesterol you really should get off animal fats asap - and that

includes even so-called 'lean' me*t of all sorts - mammals and poultry and

everything else. It also includes, sad to say, dairy products unless you wish to

use only no-fat varieties. We also recommend non-refined carbohydrates rather

than white flour/bread, white rice, etc.

You'll have lots of support here - we have some wonderfully knowledgable people

here and they love to help others. And we have recipes - check our Files

section!

Meanwhile, please read the files you were sent on joining to know what the group

is about, and ask any questions you like! Write in often, eh? Let us know how

you're going with this change!

Best, Pat (Group Co-owner with Cindi)

Welcome to our group Barbara!

We've got loads of yummmy vegetarian side dishes and main meals that should

compliment your existing menu with no trouble!

And you're right, living and eating healthier is the best example you could give

your husband to join you!
