Guest guest
Hi Everyone, My daughter and I are both vegetarians and both need to reduce our mass ) Her pediatrician recommended more protein less carbs so I've modified our receipies such as veggie taco salad minus the chips, veggie sloppy joes no bread with a side of spinach (her favorite) but she's having a really hard time cutting down on the sweets, I've tried subing in bananas and peaches but she says it's not the same as chocolate. Does anyone have any suggestions to make it easier for her? Than-you for your help. ~yvonne
Guest guest
It's great that she likes spinach! Try freezing the bananas! Peel, wrap and freeze! Somehow they taste more like a treat. My DS 10 likes peanut butter on celery. , " Yvonne " <britandtati wrote: > > Hi Everyone, > My daughter and I are both vegetarians and both need to reduce our > mass ) Her pediatrician recommended more protein less carbs so I've > modified our receipies such as veggie taco salad minus the chips, > veggie sloppy joes no bread with a side of spinach (her favorite) but > she's having a really hard time cutting down on the sweets, I've tried > subing in bananas and peaches but she says it's not the same as > chocolate. Guest guest
It's gonna be hard for her to get that chocolate taste/craving out of her system, but if you can wean her off it and see that she eats less and less, those cravings will subside. I've noticed that with myself. If I'm eating poorly or a lot of sweets, I crave them and sugar. When I'm eating better and making better snacking choices, I notice I don't have that " must have chocolate " idea take over my body! :-) I agree with the peanut butter & celery or also PB & sliced apple. Just moderate the PB since that can be pretty fattening as well! Perhaps work a small piece of chocolate in weekly as a reward for other behaviors or healthier eating throughout the week. --- On Fri, 8/8/08, Yvonne <britandtati wrote: Yvonne <britandtati Need help motivating my 11 year old Friday, August 8, 2008, 6:13 AM Hi Everyone, My daughter and I are both vegetarians and both need to reduce our mass ) Her pediatrician recommended more protein less carbs so I've modified our receipies such as veggie taco salad minus the chips, veggie sloppy joes no bread with a side of spinach (her favorite) but she's having a really hard time cutting down on the sweets, I've tried subing in bananas and peaches but she says it's not the same as chocolate. Guest guest
Have you ever tried carob coated raisins? I'm not a huge fan of carob, but on raisins it's ok. It's healthier, usually has less sugar, and you probably won't 'crave' it. Also, there are tons of 'chocolate' like protein bars out there that are low-carb. Even Russell-Stovers carries low-carb chocolates. In some of these things the sweetener that they use has some unpleasant but not threatening side-effects (like having to use the bathroom frequently) so knowing this you'll also be motivated to take it easy on the chocolate. --- On Fri, 8/8/08, Cindi <cindi93069 wrote: Cindi <cindi93069 Re: Need help motivating my 11 year old Friday, August 8, 2008, 12:51 PM It's gonna be hard for her to get that chocolate taste/craving out of her system, but if you can wean her off it and see that she eats less and less, those cravings will subside. Guest guest
Is there no room at all in your diets for chocolate? Buy some good quality dark chocolate (no corn syrup/glucose-fructose or dairy) and have a few squares together after supper. Tonight I made a chocolate shake. Frozen bananas, soy milk, cocoa powder, stevia, and a bit of vanilla and mint extract. No added sugar. The soy milk was sweetened, but I've made it with unsweetened soy milk, or with homemade almond milk, etc. Nice thick, smooth, chocolate shake, with no more sugar that a banana and glass of soy milk. I would also highly recommend increasing your intake of greens. A lot of times, cravings can be signs that you are not getting the nutrients elsewhere, a danger when you are trying to cut down on calories and green leafies are very nutrient dense and calorie light. The more greens, the fewer cravings.
