Guest guest
Hi all, i am back from tent camping this weekend. We had an awesome time with it and white water rafting. i learned a new trick for surviving the autumn wasps and bees that are voracious around meal times outside. We were dining at the Galice Rafter Resort out on the deck overlooking the river and i was shocked there were no bees or wasps, even though people all around us had food and drinks that they typically go for. i asked the aitress what their trick was, as we were in a campground just down the road and we couldn't get away from them at meal times. She pointed to the dryer sheets they had taped all over the deck railing and on the picnic tables. She said for some reason the bees and wasps don't come around when they are there and they are much more asthetically pleasing than those nasty traps they used to use. Keeps the bees and wasps at bay and doesn't kill them for doing what they naturally desire to do. i thought that was awesome and cruelty free! Just thought i'd share, i can't wait to try this out here at home when we eat outside later today. If you live in an area where this is a problem, let me know if it works for you as well. ~ pt ~ We can inherit no single syllable from the names given by Paleolithic hunters, but never since their day have our landmarks been without them, without some sound to enrich and confirm their personality. ~ Jaquetta Hawkes, 'A Land'
Guest guest
This is a great idea, PT, thank you! We will definitely try it. Our usual method is to place a bottle of fruit juice about twenty feet from camp. We call it the bee offering. They flock to the easy meal and leave us alone. --- ~ PT ~ <patchouli_troll wrote: > Hi all, i am back from tent camping this weekend. > We had an awesome time with it and white water > rafting. > > i learned a new trick for surviving the autumn wasps > > and bees that are voracious around meal times > outside. > We were dining at the Galice Rafter Resort out on > the > deck overlooking the river and i was shocked there > were > no bees or wasps, even though people all around us > had > food and drinks that they typically go for. i asked > the > aitress what their trick was, as we were in a > campground > just down the road and we couldn't get away from > them > at meal times. She pointed to the dryer sheets they > had > taped all over the deck railing and on the picnic > tables. > She said for some reason the bees and wasps don't > come > around when they are there and they are much more > asthetically pleasing than those nasty traps they > used to > use. Guest guest
That bee-offering idea has never quite worked out for us. Some like it, but some still manage to pester us as well. i think the wasps and bees around these parts like animal foods, like meat. If you dine with any omnivores they go after the meat over the soda pop. *lol* This dryer sheet thing just astounded me how well it worked. ~ pt ~ The concern of the Primary Imagination, its only concern, is with sacred beings and sacred events. The sacred is that to which it is obliged to respond; the profane is that to which it cannot respond and therefore does not know. ~ W. H.
