Guest guest
Just like many other substances, alcohol is beneficial in moderation and harmful in excess. --- The Stewarts <stews9 wrote: > Thousands of years of human consumption are against > the doctor's > teetotaler attitude. > > On Wednesday, September 22, 2004, at 06:29 PM, > wrote: > > > About the alcohol, leading endocrinologist Dr. > Diana Schwarzbein > > calls it " a toxic chemical that affects every > hormone in your body. Guest guest
I know there are studies that say alcohol is beneficial. In my church, we have the Word of Wisdom, direct revelation from God which says to avoid alcoholic drinks, that they are not for the body. (Same with tobacco, coffee and tea.) I never cared about drinking anyway, so it hasn't been a problem to stay away from it. , reptile grrl <reptilegoddess> wrote: > Just like many other substances, alcohol is beneficial > in moderation and harmful in excess. > > > --- The Stewarts <stews9@c...> wrote: > > > Thousands of years of human consumption are against > > the doctor's > > teetotaler attitude. > > > > On Wednesday, September 22, 2004, at 06:29 PM, > > wrote: > > > > > About the alcohol, leading endocrinologist Dr. > > Diana Schwarzbein > > > calls it " a toxic chemical that affects every > > hormone in your body. Guest guest
Well, what each person does is up to you. However, as has been stated, there are numerous studies that site the benefits of drinking a glass of red wine per day in the prevention of heart disease. Guest guest
Says to stay away from it? Only in excess. And actually, excess is *commanded* in Proverbs31:6-7. " Give beer to those who are perishing, wine to those who are in anguish; let them drink and forget their poverty and remember their misery no more. " Christ turned water to wine (not grape juice), and wine was used as a symbol of joy, properity, and thanksgiving. But excess of all things (food, wine, etc) is generally forbidden. I don't remember anywhere in the Bible where it says to stay away from coffee or tea (tobacco only in a derived way). Guest guest
Alcohol is a depressant. Momentary happiness is not worth the mental anguish. Yes, using it for medical reasons is great, but you also have to take in to mind that the bible is not a medical journal and was not written by God. Alcohol is good in moderation, but so is mostly everything. Guest guest
I've drunk alcohol (in moderation) since about the age of 14 (with parental consent). I've never been drunk, and never experienced mental anguish. I understand that the Bible is not a medical journal, but I do not have to " accept " that the bible was not written by God. Guest guest
I realize it's not in the Bible, but I was talking about in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and the Word of Wisdom, revelation which says to stay away from these things. Sorry moderator, just answering his question and I will drop the subject. : ) , " Kevin Smith " <thatballguy> wrote: > Says to stay away from it? Only in excess.
