Guest guest
They marinate their tofu in salad dressing, then charge a 150% markup over the retail cost of plain tofu. Pretty packaging, but how hard is it really to toss some tofu in marinade the night before? What this product really means is that there's a sizable market for part and full time vegetarians now, so here comes corporate fodd production and their the marketing trix and deceptions. Want another example? Whoever started up Boca Burgers about 10 years ago sold it to some huge food corp. The new owners immediately reformulated the boca burgers with ridiculously antithetical ingredients like cheese. Remember when granola bars were good for you? Then you can remember a long way back. Consider yourself warned. Make your own food unless you have a deathwish. At 11:42 AM 9/30/2004, you wrote: >Has anyone else tried this? Chief Wiggum: The Mc-what? Lou: Yeah, I never heard of it either but they say they have over 2000 locations in this state alone. Eddie: Hmm...Must've sprung up over night. Lou: But you know, its the little differences. Chief Wiggum: Example? Lou: Well at a McDonalds you can get a Krusty Burger with cheese. But they don't call it a Krusty Burger with cheese. Chief Wiggum: Get out! What do they call it? Lou: A quarter pounder with cheese. Chief Wiggum: Quarter pounder with cheese...well I can see the cheese but? Hey, do they have Krusty's Partially Gelatinated Gum-Based beverages? Lou: Yeah, they call them 'shakes.' Eddie: *Pfft* 'Shakes.' You don't know what you're gettin'. Sounds about right. i guess i could marinate my own after all. i am certainly an advocate for saving money, and eating healthier food i prepare myself. Speaking of marinades for tofu... what are some of your favorite recipes for them? ~ pt ~ Eating meat really does mean eating dead animals. Guest guest
I take 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, 2 tablespoons of teriyaki, 1 tsp of olive oil, 2 tablespoons of water, one clove crushed garlic and a shake of roasted sesame seeds and marinate the tofu in this for 2 hrs. ~ PT ~ <patchouli_troll wrote: LOL. I’m willing to pay for the convenience, personally. By the time I get home from work and walk the dog, it’s often close to 8 pm. Frankly, I don’t always have the energy to make a good meal from scratch, and I prefer these “convenience foods” to takeout. I know there’s a markup on the “tv dinner” style meals too, but they sure make getting lunch ready a lot easier in the morning when I’m rushing out the door, and they’re still less expensive than going out for lunch (which I often don’t have time to do anyway). Personally, I’m glad that the corporate world has noticed the increased interest in vegetarian meals. It makes my life easier, makes the transition to meatless eating less cumbersome, and makes meal planning less of a chore. I live in the NYC suburbs, where convenience is perhaps more important than other areas, and I’m grateful that I have so many options that weren’t available just a few years ago. I don’t see anything deceptive about it. There’s a market for convenience foods, whether meatless or not. We know what they are when we buy them. To each his/her own, of course, and I’m glad you have the time and organizational skills to plan ahead. I don’t always have that luxury. -- Sherri A conclusion is the place where you get tired of thinking. (Arthur Bloch) The Karma of Literature: Books just wanna be FREE!
