Guest guest
I've already given up milk and most beef (mad cow really scares me), and other animals just seem to suffer too much from us consuming them.. not to mention the amount of resources it takes to produce a food animal. My 3 year old son won't eat meat, and I'm never going to force him, so maybe he can get a good start where I didn't. I have a bunch of recipes that use cheese and/or milk. Can I substitute soy milk for regular milk? Or are the plant and animal proteins too different? I read somewhere that silken tofu can be substituted for eggs, I already know that 2 Tbsp. of water will work nicely instead of eggs in a lot of recipes. I'm at work and my lunch hour is coming to an end, but I do look forward to being an active member. I think the hardest meat for me to give up will be turkey. I'm doing everything I can to gross myself out on the thought of eating meat. Has anyone got any disgusting facts to help me? lol And yes, I've been to Peta's website and seen the videos... I feel like a monster for contributing to the slaughter. I keep trying to picture the animal's eyes as it's dying, that does it sometimes, but I do get cravings, and I know it's probably actually coming from whatever hormone or chemical they are shooting the animal full of. Giving up cheese was easy... all I had to do was remind myself that milk is mucous-forming, and I could make the connection between melted cheese and... well, I'm not going to finish that because it is gross and I just finished lunch (vegetarian vegetable soup again). Have a great day anyone. Sincerely, †Lorelei

As to milk, I use soy and almond milks in my cooking with no problems - just make sure it isn't flavored:) Debra Debra Lee Thompson Analyst - Mortgage I First Horizon Home Loans Corporation debrathompson <debrathompson 214.492.7402 loreleicosner [loreleicosner] Monday, November 29, 2004 11:27 AM Not vegetarian yet, but I'm trying I've already given up milk and most beef (mad cow really scares me), and other animals just seem to suffer too much from us consuming them.. not to mention the amount of resources it takes to produce a food animal. Guest guest
Dear Debra, Thank you so much for the info. I may have found my beef substitute. I called the grocery store I shop at, and they carry vegetarian meat substitutes. I'm not sure if he meant falafel, which I've had before, or even Boca burgers (I love those). I know it will mean a much healthier lifestyle if I can change my diet, and I'm already feeling better without the dairy in my diet. I've been dairy free for about two months now. Guest guest
Lorelei - Also try seitan - I've heard it's alot like beef. It's made from wheat gluten rather than soy...also, tempeh is a good substitute when you need something that will stay cubed - I like the one with sea vegetable in it:) I just cut it up and pan sauté it with soy sauce - great stuff! Guest guest
Dear Debra, Thanks so much for the tip. I'm always stir frying, and I do have some tofu scrambler in the cupboard... I LOVE that stuff. Now... if I can get my hubby to lean toward 'no meat' I'll be doing good. †Lorelei , " Thompson, Debra lee " <Debrathompson@f...> wrote: > Lorelei - > > Also try seitan - I've heard it's alot like beef.
