Guest guest
I think I may have found the best vegan chocolates (if they are truly vegan) - I got them at Whole Foods - it's their 365 organic brand chocolate truffles:) They have no milk/milk byproducts, are made from organic cocoa butter, organic cocoa mass, organic vegetable oil (copra oil), organic cocoa powder, organic cane sugar, and use soy lecithin as an emulsifier. However, there is a warning on the box that they are made in a plant that also uses milk & nuts in other products. Can I get a second opinion on this - they are tooooo good to be true!!! Guest guest
This sounds great Debra... Whole Foods is not here but good to know when i am in Cali. There is Euophria Chocolate that has vegan alternatives and uses good syrups too. It's nice to see the the whole foods movement has following enough to support chem-free foods. I wish we had food purity laws like they do in Germany. American food often contains more additives and byproducts. Even common brands like Rittersport are far superior to brands like Hersheys that are mostly sugar with some wax added to the mix. Am glad u found something better but remember that it can still rot your teeth and add pounds! Guest guest
Hey David* - That's beauty of these - they're so rich, I can't eat many at one time, and they're so decadent, I want to savor them:) I hope you can find them - I know they're on the website - not sure if they do online orders, but I did also see a site of them that was based in Canada! I agree 210% on the differences of German and American foods - I lived in Germany for three years in the early 80's (I did NOT want to come back to the States). But, there is a German store here in the DFW area - and they do have an online store: www.germandeli.com have a look around - very nice people:) Debra Lee Thompson Analyst - Mortgage I First Horizon Home Loans Corporation debrathompson <debrathompson 214.492.7402 david* [hempprince] Wednesday, December 01, 2004 4:54 PM Re: Possibly the best Vegan chocolates EVER!!!!!! Guest guest
Thanks for the link Deb.... will check it out. I lived in a village near Heidelburg in '97-98 and have been back a couple of times when tbackpacking it in Europe. I love it too and would stay if i commanded the language. I hope to check out the UK on my next jaunt since i havent done it yet. I will research where i can get veggie stuff though i found it easier than most of the states. I used to get fresh whole grain bread covered in pumpkin seeds at the neighborhood Aldi at a " gute und billig " price. Besides the bread and chocolate, you are in luck if embibing in bier or wine since many villages have their own stock. Also, i found the imports from France and Italy to be inexpensive compared to US though we have a food outlet with cheaper prices. I am always impressed with how things are done in various countries of the EU. America is coming along thanks to people that take an active role in changing their habits. We have a long way to go but am glad their is awareness. If one lives on the US west coast [Cali to BC] there are more opportunites to get whole foods without much effort and perhaps more " health foods " than most places. I had some difficulty when visiting family in Texas since the only healthfood store is " Albertsons " ! My brother who runs their meat market put in orders to get me soy cheese and extras when i was visiting last winter. He, like most of my family, struggle with weight so i know that my lifestyle serves me well. david* " Thompson, Debra lee " <Debrathompson@f...> wrote: > Hey David* - That's beauty of these - they're so rich, I can't eat many at one time, and they're so decadent, I want to savor them:) > I agree 210% on the differences of German and American foods - I lived in Germany for three years in the early 80's (I did NOT want to come back to the States). (The nut dust could possible migrate over...) Also Haagen Daz makes a sorbet, but it is classified as dairy becasue they also use those machines to make ice cream. Guest guest
So basically this warning is a " just in case, " not a " definite thing. " Cool:) Debra Lee Thompson Analyst - Mortgage I First Horizon Home Loans Corporation debrathompson <debrathompson 214.492.7402 Amy P. Guest guest
They are truly great- and I have eaten a lot of chocolate(not all vegan though) in many places(the Belgian economy spiked up when Iwas in Brussels).
Guest guest
Also you will sometimes see -esp on Sorbet(Ben and Jerrys as well as Haagen daz- I think)- an OU DE- means Orthodox Union(very kosher) but made on dairy equipment. People who keep kosher very strictly will not eat DE items with meat or within 6 hours after eating meat- it can be considered the same as dairy to some people for religious reasons-even though there is no dairy in the product.
