Chanukkah Doughnuts

Baked dougnuts?

Those might be yummy for some healthy holiday. :^)

On Chanukkah we remember the miracle of the oil that

burned for eight days by eating oily food. Doughnuts.

Latkes.

Tonight, I will make latkes. Hum... I wonder if I

have apple sauce. Oh! Yes I do! I have individual

serving cups that I buy for one of my cats. She loves

and any strained or liquid fruit or vegetable; I buy

jars of baby food for her. Oh, she still eats her

Iams... but this furry princess really gets into

prunes, squash, carrots...

uh, oh-If I eat baked latkes- am I not commemorating?? My husband

will be frying them tonight but after this- if I make them- they get

baked- but I use Trader joes canola oil spray.

If you don't have apple sauce- you can always microwave an apple and

mash it. I will cut up a bunch of granny smiths(I do not peel them),

microwave them and toss them in my cuisinart with some cinnamon. My

daughter likes it sweeter so I add sugar to her portion. Some years,

I do a mix of apples to get a little more sweetness.

Happy Chanukah

Hee, hee...

My sister-in-law and I are conspirators every year at family

gatherings...we find a place to hide the ketchup in the dining room

before dinner and then surrepticiously use it & pass it under the

table. My mother-in-law, jokingly, thinks it is tragic to have

latkes with ketchup!!

My cats sniff it, but do not eat it.... My little boy does like

marshmallows

No, but we call those hash browns. (Inside joke from when I lived in

Texas - the only Jews for miles....)

You lived in TX? When? Where?

Circa 1969, I lived near Austin. On Saturday

mornings, I was asked where I was going.

" Temple, " I answered.

Why are you going all the way to Temple (the town)? "

" No. I'm going to shul. "

" We don't have school on Saturdays. "

Finally, I accepted that to be understood I had to say

I was going to " Jew church. "

Wow. Austin has really changed then. Look at this:

http://studentorgs.utexas.edu/cjso/. =) I lived there a few years back

before I went to Arizona and before my interest in Judaism [although my

interest and Arizona are not directly related].

Anyway, I've been researching where I can move to convert (I'm super rural

in south Texas right now). Surprisingly, I have choices! One of several

links I've bookmarked: http://www1.chabadtexas.org/default_beta.asp.
