Guest guest
I don't think it's off topic at all, just goes to show you ya don't need brain stem or cns to have memories or aspirations Blessings, Chanda/Maria - " RR/LA Small Pet Rescue " <bunnyresq Wednesday, December 08, 2004 12:41 PM Re:: Is Fish Meat? I think this might be a little OT, but I have trained several of my golfish to do tricks, and to eat out of my hand. They do have cute little personalities. The all-new My – What will yours do? Guest guest
I don't think it is over the top either. We don't eat fish, we think of them as animals. We have a fish tank & our kids adore those animals - they have names and are talked to - they'd be trained if we could and definitely snuggled and petted. I'm reading with sadness about all your kitties. My son was hospitalized last winter after a severe asthmatic reaction - on testing it turned out both boys were allergic, but with the asthmatic development trying to keep our cats was impossible and not okay to risk. It was traumatic for all of us. We had a black and white cutie and a flame point siamese - we were able to find them good homes & meet the families they went too - didn't make it easier, but was reassuring. Fish are not cats - they are animals though!! m
Guest guest
They do have brains and brain stems. The smaller commonly kept freshwater tropical fish also have brains but do not have nearly as much development as goldfish. You can see pictures of a goldfish brain here: http://www.badgerwood.co.uk/evocsfgdf.html and here: http://www.iac-usnc.org/methods/mauthner/dissection1.html Goldfish are pretty smart little animals if you take the time to notice, and play games and form relationships with each other. That is why I like them over the smaller tropicals. They can live in excess of ten years. Other large, long-lived fish are similar. Some ocean fish are smarter than our dogs and cats. I hate seeing them sold as food for other fish. , " Maria/Chanda " <puterwitch@c...> wrote: > I don't think it's off topic at all, just goes to show you ya don't need > brain stem or cns to have memories or aspirations > Blessings, > Chanda/Maria > - > " RR/LA Small Pet Rescue " <bunnyresq> > > Wednesday, December 08, 2004 12:41 PM > Re:: Is Fish Meat? > > > > I think this might be a little OT, but I have trained several of my golfish > to do tricks, and to eat out of my hand. Guest guest
Goldfish have brain stems and a central nervous system. Also, plants can be clicker trained, however, being able to react to stimuli does not mean they have cognizant awareness of pain.
