Guest guest
Hey - Our office party is this Thursday, and I need to come up with something healthy, substantial, vegan, but finger food type of thing that I can make. Others are already bringing a raw veggie and a raw fruit platter. What I am thinking would be somewhere in the neighborhood of the Lentil Nut loaf, but that could be made into more " meatless " meatballs with perhaps a dipping sauce...any ideas out there? Thanks! Guest guest
I am not Vegan. Let me give you the ingredients here and you tell me if this is doable. I think it's Vegan: Mushroom toastbeds: margarine (I imagine some oils would work too) mushrooms cornstarch bread or crackers garlic and onion powder or the real deal. you sauté the shopped mushrooms and spices in the margarine and put on toast beds. It's so so good. Let me know if this is ok and I will get more into detail. Blessings, Chanda - Thompson, Debra lee Tuesday, December 14, 2004 9:08 AM Vegan Party/Finger Food Recipes/Ideas Needed... Guest guest
I have used them for years, along with mushroom shishkabobs. For the toast I used a 7 grain bread and for the mushrooms I prefer shiitake or miatake braised with vegitarian beef substitute. Cut the mushrooms up for toast or leave them whole for the shishkabobs. They rock! - Maria/Chanda Tuesday, December 14, 2004 9:15 AM Re: Vegan Party/Finger Food Recipes/Ideas Needed... Guest guest
i served ours with samosas too...but they probably weren't as good as the ones you had...i got them in the frozen section of one of the local grocery stores. right when i was about to serve dinner that night, i realized that i didn't have any chutney to go with the samosas (and not enough time to make a decent batch) so i added some curry powder and chopped cilantro to some left over salsa verde. although it wasn't horrible, i wouldn't recomend it. lol. i ended up dipping mine in some sweet thai chile sauce....that was good. susie --- " Thompson, Debra lee " <Debrathompson wrote: > Thanks:) It was lovely - we went to one of our > local Indian markets and > grabbed some fresh samosas to have with it:) We > dined quite elegantly > last night:) > > Debra Lee Thompson The all-new My - What will yours do? Guest guest
I think " meatless meatballs " are a great idea...I make them with a recipe from Linda McCartney's Linda's Kitchen (or buy the ready made depending on time, TJ's has good ones)...they use eggs though. One sauce you can serve them with is a Chili Sauce (same source for the recipe) - it is rather like a cooked salsa. 1 finely chopped sweet onion 1T olive oil 1 clove garlic minced 1-2 fresh hot green chile peppers chopped (I use canned) 1lb peeled, chopped tomato or 1 16oz can crushed tomatoes w/ juice juice of 1/2 a lemon sea salt saute onion at least 5 minutes over low heat till soft - add garlic & chile and cook still over low till chile is soft (few minutes) - add tomatoes and heat thru for 5 minutes - finish with lemon and salt - keep in fridge. I also make " sausage rolls " for party appetizers. I use store bought fakes and wrap them either in filo or puff pastry (store bought frozen). These are quick and easy...kind of a cop out! You'd have to double check ingredients for vegan & careful with store bought pastries, check for lard and gelatin. m

Thanks! Guest guest
Wow, what a great idea, Susie. i am definately going to make this to take to a domino party i am going to this weekend. Thanks! ~ pt ~ It is in recognizing the mystic we always were rather than mimicking the pious practices of our faith that we discover the meaning beneath the meaning which has always been calling us. ~ exerpt from 'The Celtic Spirit', by Caitlin Matthews ~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~> replying to this digest post: " artichoke72x " <artichoke72x Re: Vegan Party/Finger Food Recipes/Ideas Needed... i've made and served mini falafels with a tahini dipping sauce at parties before...people loved them. You just gave me a great idea. How bout onion, mushroom, and green and red pepper kabobs for a holiday look. They can be marinated in marinade of your choice. I would marinate in Italian dressing, but I don't know how vegan that is, but anyway the marinade choices are endless. This is makingme hungry! LOL Blessings, Maria/Chanda - Brian K. Meyer Tuesday, December 14, 2004 9:34 AM Re: Vegan Party/Finger Food Recipes/Ideas Needed...
