Guest guest
Thanks I will check around. We don't have those markets here in LA, wouldn't you know it. I agree the walnut/pistachio mix is the best. Debra Lee Thompson <Debrathompson wrote: I find it in any of the many Mediterranean markets we have here in Dallas. The brand is " Cortas. It's is really wonderful - it gives the baklava the faintest hint of orange flavouring:) The woman I received my recipe from got the recipe from her previous mother-in-law in Saudi Arabia. She uses pistashios and the rolled method. I do the same, but usually split the recipe between walnuts and pistashios and sometimes use the green pistachio phyllo for variation. I have also used chocolate phyllo and ground hazelnuts for a change of pace:) Debra , GeminiDragon <thelilacflower> wrote: > Hi Debra, > Where do you find the orange blossom water? Guest guest
Donna - Do you like preseves? The HERO Swiss brand is excellent - I prefer Swiss/German preserves to American ones because they are more fruit and less sugar:) (Until there were fruit spreads made available in the U.S., I never would buy American made ones) Also, any of the Oetker brand mixes are good too - German baked gods are more dense than American, so do expect something a bit different - but it's good all the same:) The German mustards are lovely as well - they are usually a mastard/horseradish blend. In fact, another site you should look into specifically for German stuff is www.Germandeli.com - they're in Southlake, Texas - so I go to the showroom frequently. They have preserves, noodles, pickles, baking mixes, teas, coffees, condiments, seasoning packets, cookies, cakes, cookware, and most importantly...CHOCOLATE - not the waxy crap that Hershey's and M & M Mars puts out - REAL German chocolate, and Tons of Harigo gummies (they even have Gummi Schlumfs - aka Smurfs, which I had only seen in Germany!)they also have wonderful spirited chocolates:) Debra , GeminiDragon <thelilacflower> wrote: > Thank youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu Debra! Guest guest
Debra, This is very exciting. I'm a Swede and there are no Swedish deli or shops around here. Ikea has a few things but not much. I love Hero ligonberry preserves and I agree, The Knott's and Smuckers are pure sugar. I'm used to my Gran making homemade preserves. I work with a woman from Germany and I know she will be excited about both sites. Thank you again. Later today I will look for a few items. Enjoy a wonderful Sunday. It's 41 out right now and then it climbs up to the high 70's by noon. (L.A. Calif) ..... Donna Debra Lee Thompson <Debrathompson wrote: Donna - Do you like preseves? Guest guest
Thanks for posting the link. I'm filling out an order too. The Dr. Oetker Raspberry pudding is good. The Hero jams are excellent. So are all the hazelnut cookies... I love hazelnuts. The Rose syrup is very nice -- dribble a little on vanilla ice cream. Serve fresh or canned peaches or pears, dribbled with a little rose syrup. Only a tiny bit is necessary. Gosh that is so good it's making me hungry just thinking about it. Smells wonderful too. The rose syrup is not the same as rose water -- the syrup is sweeter and thicker and deep pink. It's nice to have both on hand. The apricot and fig jams from the levant are usually great too. I agree, the jams from overseas are much better than the US brands. , " Debra Lee Thompson " <Debrathompson@f...> wrote: > > Donna - > > Do you like preseves?
