Guest guest
Although I have already posted a couple of times (jumped right in!), I thought I would take a moment to re-introduce myself. I joined this group last year sometime, maybe Spring '04? and was using a different email. On June 27 we drove away from beautiful Sandy, OR to our new home in SW Iowa. We had been planning the move since March, when we found a wonderful 5 acre property. My mom was dying and we wanted the opportunity to be with her and my family. And Oregon was just getting too expensive. We've now been in Iowa for 6 months, enjoying a snow filled cold winter and are settling down nicely. We don't find it too difficult to buy organic and vegetarian food at the grocery store, we work and shop in a town of 12,000 and live 30 miles south. However, when we want to go out to eat we don't have too many options, two chinese places and a mexican joint. All three are very mediocre, although the mexican restaurant does make their own hot sauce. That's okay, though, we save more money by not eating out. We live about one hour west of Des Moines and are members of a co-op in Ames, which is about 1 1/2 hrs northeast of us. We moved here with one dog and three cats and have added on two more cats and were adopted by a pair of Guinea fowl, which now means we have fourteen. Wasn't expecting to be trudging out to the old barn, which is where they've taken up their winter roosting, twice a day. But it gets me up in the morning and I enjoy their twittering when they see me. One last note, James has been a lacto/ova vegetarian for seven years and I for two, with some setbacks when I first moved here and James was back in Oregon settling our property. Okay, I guess you all don't need my life story. Seems like the group has changed quite a bit but look forward to being involved again. blessings, Denise
