What I won't eat! Or serve!

Had a conversation with a friend today.

Was telling her I'm planning my (50th!) birthday

party, and that even though I will probably be the

only vegitarian, I insist the food I offer be

vegetarian.

She said I am wrong. As the hostess, I should offer

what others want.

I said veggie fare was something everyone could eat; a

sharable common denominator. And I insisted that I

will not pay for flesh, contributing to a void in the

supply and demand continum.

She said I may choose not to eat meat, but I should

offer it. She said she would.

So, I asked her if, if I told her I was a canibal,

would she serve me human flesh?

She made a sour face, and said, " No. "

I told her that's how I feel! Killing animals is

murder, and I find it repulsive and immoral!

We dropped the exchange... finally.

I am NOT wrong!

" The cat did not respond. She did not believe in paraphrasing anybody. If

people pursued this same feline wisdom, there'd be a lot fewer

misunderstandings. "

no you're not wrong.

I don't know though if serving the meat is contributing because that is meat

they would be eating anyway. ???

I thought about this too. I don't know what I am gonna do at my next party.

Good for you! Non-veggies can enjoy lots of delicious veg food. :) All my

parties are vegan and no one's complained about the food yet! :)

Correct Jiraph, your are not wrong.

First - it's your birthday, you can have what ever you want!

That may be a selfish way to look at it but that is just my opinion.

Second, it will give some closed minded people a chance to open their

minds.

When someone is hungary enough they will try just about anything!

Third - it's your birthday - you can have what ever you want!!!

PS - Happy 50th birthday.

Your friend is nuts. She wouldn't tell a Jew or Muslim they " had " to

serve pork to somebody who might possibly eat that, or a Mormon they

" had " to serve booze. Good for you for standing your ground.

not nuts LOL....... intimidated.

to agree is to admit that the meat eater is dong something wrong. He/she is

subconsciously defending him or herself.

To agree would subconsciously be admitting that it is wrong.

My own mother calls vegetarians nuts. She stopped doing it with me, when when

she is talking to my 21 year old son she says things like, " those whacky brain

washing vegetarians she talks to "

my own mom, go figure,

Offer your guests whatever type of dishes you wish. These people

aren't going to starve to death if you " don't " offer any meat dishes.

Plus, they are getting free food - they don't have any reason to

complain.

I'd bet if you offered several vegetarian dishes, they wouldn't even

notice or care. You might even convert someone.

You could grill up some veggies or veggie patties and links. This

might give some of those sticklers a feeling or a sense of having meat.

Have a good party and B-day and report back on the outcome!

When I have a get together, I serve as I eat.

I have friends of all food groups, and they know as to what is being

served as per my menu I send, if they wish something different, bring it.

If you don't like as what I eat or what is being cooked by me don't come.

If it's a party I do cook food as per the group I am entaining, but

that is usally business.

For my home my way.

Don't stress your doing the cooking, and even I stop and eat before

going to certain friends houses, they can do the same.

I agree, too. In fact whenever James and I have a party it is only

vegetarian, even when we have a pot luck; yep we ask people to bring

non-meat dishes. The only time we allowed meat was when someone was

having a wedding reception on our property. And we made them solely

responsible for the grill and the service.

It is very old fashioned to think that the hostess must please

everyone coming to her party. Hey, it's your party; you don't even

have to serve food! And as Shawn mentioned, no one will probably even

notice the lack of meat and instead will rave about all the wonderful

dishes!

Happy Birthday!!
