Guest guest
Me, too. I wasn't forced to eat everything on my plate and I don't have any childhood trauma based on food. The only thing my mom did was tell me that if I didn't eat I was going hungry because that's all she was fixing. We were on a very strict budget and even at a young age I understood that I was lucky to have a meal in front of me. Although it probably killed my mom to fix this, one of my favorite dinners was, fried egg with chips (french fries) and baked beans (usually on toast). My sister, on the other hand, has a heck of a time fixing anything that her family will eat. She brought up her two boys thinking that if they didn't like what she was fixing than she would fix something specific for them. She'll fix a really nice meal and then the boys (13 & 14) will want pizza or tv dinners or something else. Unless she's making mashed potatoes, then they'll eat those. Guest guest
right. Well, what I do, if princess doesn't like what I am making she can make herself some easy mac, but like your mom, I won't cook again! Same with me when I was a kid too, my mom wouldn't cook again either and I am glad she didn't, even if it did mean having those awful pot pies every other Friday. I can still see them sitting on the tray <gag> I ate as much as I could, then made a peanut butter and jelly or something. Guest guest
My mom (Italian as she is. ) spoiled us with food. She had been forced by the nuns to eat things and she would stand up for me about stuff like that (like the time I got in trouble at school for not eating mayonnaise...it's not even healthy!) She is a picky eater and while I had to taste things, I didn't have to eat them if I found them horrible. But then, I loved healthy food. Veggies were always easy for me to eat (except onions ). I loved spinach and okra and peas and carrots and all kinds of stuff. I've never had liver in my life (she hated it and figured why cook it if she hates it) though it was offered occasionally by my dad (who loves it), I was always allowed to say no as long as I did it politely. My mom always had tons of junk food around the house. My friends would go nuts over it when they came over and while I'd have some sometimes, I wasn't too into junk food because it wasn't forbidden. My brothers are pretty much the same way (one's vegan like me, the other is vegetarian). My mom always wonders how she raised a bunch of " health nuts " . I still have a sweet tooth, but it's usually satisfied by a tiny bit of candy (a few jellybeans or a cafe mocha or something.) Heck, my Italian grandmother used to try to feed us so many sweets, even as kids, we'd be like " oh no cake please " . Veronica At 09:56 PM 3/21/2005 +0000, you wrote: >Me, too. Guest guest
thanks for sharing that veronica. my mom liked liver and onions, but never forced me to eat it of course, until I was pregnant with my first child (21 years ago) She guilted me into trying it then saying that I needed it for strong blood etc. and not trying it was denying the baby of said nutrients. OK, so I tried it reluctantly, and UGHHHHHHHHHH, spit it out, LOL. Blessings, Chanda - Diamond Dog Monday, March 21, 2005 7:20 PM Re: forced feeding was:Re: Does anyone have favorite veggies?
