Guest guest
Hello, I am new to this group. I am originally from Vancouver, Canada, but I now live in Brisbane, Australia. I have been a Vegetarian since the age of 13 (my choice). Vancouver was a great place to be Vegetarian, lots of options and ALWAYS loads of veggie meals in restaurants... Australia is a different story. They are not so accepting of us here and Australians still firmly believe that a meal just isn't a meal if it doesn't have a big chunk of meat on the plate. Waitstaff in restaurants suggest that I have the dish with chicken or fish! Vegetarians are viewed here as being pot-smoking, dread locked, hippies - all of which I am not (I am a Law student for goodness sake) Anyways, thanks for welcoming me to the group, I hope to get some good recipes from here, Cheers Corinna

ANYHOW, some family members have always been more accepting of us than others & the fact that we really live a pretty " normal " live is still a shock to some... m
Guest guest
but but but........ what about that yummy vegemite!!! LOL, never tried it but from what I have heard y either love it or brutally hate it, LOL. My sister's father in law has lived in Australia most of his life. When he came to visit last time they put a few jars of it in their cabinets for a gag, cause he hates it with a passion. Guest guest
This hippy took ballet when she was young, and I liked it, in fact, I still incorporate some of the ballet moves into my everyday life, like when say I am picking up something off of the floor, etc. (too old to dance now ) ) Do you think ballet played any role in your vegetarian choice? Do you think that the state of mind you had during your dance may have lead you there? Guest guest
Chanda - I love the idea that ballet may have influenced my veggie ideas...but sorry, no way! My favorites then were hamburgers, fries, icecream and Tab. When I was most seriously dancing in my teens and 20's I was eating horrendously (if at all) - it is so awful during that hugely developmental time the total lack of nutrients I took in, and the beating my body took - ack!! My impression of dance instruction now is that it is way more well rounded and many schools give the girls sound nutritional advice. Back in my day, we were eating disorder central...and we smoked... I always found it humorous then that people were shocked that I didn't treat my body as a temple...I think to some extent at that age you have that invincible mentality & think you can do anything... Sadly - I eat what I want now and don't have issues with my weight that I did then when I counted every french fry (not carrot) - of course I'm also not trying to stay under 95 pounds any more either!! The vegetarianism came around when I finally went to university & realized there was a world outside the dance studio... I love the image of you dancing around the house as you vaccuum and hang laundry (the dryer just isn't as fun for choreography). I do yoga & pilates now...and sometimes still teach ballet...and I dance nearly every day with the Wiggles!! m
Guest guest
wow. I do yoga, well..... since my body doesn't cooperate the way it used to, I am only 39 but had a full hysterectomy 2 years ago which screwed my bones up big time. I still do some yoga though, the easy stuff, but my yoga that is important is in the mind, I still meditate often and will never stop. I associate ballet as similar to yoga but I guess I was wrong, LOL. Why tab? LOL, I haven't heard that word since my granmom, and I take it you are in your 20's??? how did tab come about, LOL as far as the choreography of my dancing about hanging wash, well.... my husband would love to watch that, LOL, but it ain't happnin' here, LOL. But it sounds like a nice start for modern age Figaro rendition. LOL. Guest guest
I saw a ballet last year that had a lot of yoga poses incorporated in it. It was quite beautiful. I asked my yoga teacher, who was also a dancer and she said that a lot of dancer can benefit from yoga poses. We even have two young ladies in our class who are dancers. It's great to watch them do asanas, they are so graceful.
