Guest guest Posted April 9, 2005 Report Share Posted April 9, 2005 Charoset is a mixture of chopped nuts, apples, and wine which, to the eye, resembles the mortar used by the slaves in the construction with bricks in Egypt. However, its taste is sweet freedom, thus symbolizing the redemptive transition from slavery to freedom. Try this Pesach recipe (from Out of Our Kitchen Closets)! Its one of my favorites. Charoset Allegra 3/4 cup golden raisins 1/2 cup fresh orange juice 2 large navel oranges, pealed, sectioned, and chopped 1 large apple, pealed, cored, and chopped 10 to 12 ounces dates, pitted and chopped 3/4 cup chopped walnuts Up to 1/2 cup sweet kosher-for-Pesach wie, as needed to moisten • Soak raisins in orange juice, in medium-size bowl, until plump. • Add everything else, except the wine. • Mash thoroughly by hand, using a mortor and pestle, or similar blunt instrument, or chop coarsly in a food processor. • Add wine, as needed.
