Charoset is a mixture of chopped nuts, apples, and

wine which, to the eye, resembles the mortar used by

the slaves in the construction with bricks in Egypt.

However, its taste is sweet freedom, thus symbolizing

the redemptive transition from slavery to freedom.

Try this Pesach recipe (from Out of Our Kitchen

Closets)! Its one of my favorites.

Charoset Allegra

3/4 cup golden raisins

1/2 cup fresh orange juice

2 large navel oranges, pealed, sectioned, and chopped

1 large apple, pealed, cored, and chopped

10 to 12 ounces dates, pitted and chopped

3/4 cup chopped walnuts

Up to 1/2 cup sweet kosher-for-Pesach wie, as needed

to moisten

• Soak raisins in orange juice, in medium-size bowl,

until plump.

• Add everything else, except the wine.

• Mash thoroughly by hand, using a mortor and pestle,

or similar blunt instrument, or chop coarsly in a food

processor.

• Add wine, as needed.

Serves 4 to 6

1/2 hour prep. time

people pursued this same feline wisdom, there'd be a lot fewer

misunderstandings. "

On a piece of matzo. Dab on some horseraddish, which might help open your

airways while you're at it! :^) Mmmmmm.

Jiraph - do you just eat this with a spoon? Or put it on something?

Whichever, it looks delicious!
