Guest guest
Hi I have been a vegetarian since Oct of last year. Only I seem to be getting weaker and weaker as the months go by. I think it might be the lack of protein. I tried soy products for 2 months but the headaches and gas were terrible and my system just didn't seem to adjust. So I had to stop. I tried cutting back to a few times a week but that didn't work. I do crush fresh raw nuts every morning and add to what ever I am eating that day but I still find myself needing 10 hours of sleep and I barely have enough energy to go through my day. I do have an appointment with the Doctors on May 6th, but I feel he will just want me to start eating meat, which I really don't want to do. Any suggestions for what I can do to get my energy back up? thank-you in advance penni
Guest guest
My suggestion is to get some GOOD protein powder (whey, if you can't tolerate soy..also assuming you eat dairy) and make shakes and smoothies. This is what post-op gastric bypass folks do since they can't absorb their food well. This is the only way they get enough protein. Anyway, that is my suggestion. If you get a neutral powder and add your own flavoring you will get great results. Here is my fav smoothie recipe: 1 Cup mixed berries (rasp, blue and black) 1 banana (small, fresh or frozen) 6 oz vanilla yogurt 1-2 scoops protein powder Passion Fruit Juice to desired consistency Put it all in a blender and whir it up. Super yummy way to start the day. My 5 year old LOVES these Candace
Guest guest
Penni - Find a good vegetarian cookbook that explains nutrition needs and how to meet them!! Laurel's Kitchen comes to mind off the top of my head, but there are many out there - check amazon! You are probably lacking in iron & the b vitamins. Perhaps for now a vitamin supplement will help...however, foods are the best way to get the nutrients you need, your body makes better use of them and processes them better this way. I think you are wise to consult a doctor - hopefully he or she is openminded - perhaps they can send you to a nutritionist?!! Best of luck, m
Guest guest
Thanks for your suggestions. I think your right and it may not be the lack of protein. I eat rice and beans often, spinach,(dark greens have protein??? I think, I have tried to learn too much too fast I get confused, LOL) whole wheat bread (although I have cut down on my bread eating. One small loaf of whole wheat bread last for two weeks. I use to eat a lot more bread.) I'll keep a diary of what I eat from now until my Doctors appointment to see if I can find a pattern. I'll try the Whey protein and make some shakes. I read often and really enjoy all your ideas. Thanks <plm912@g...> wrote: > > Hi I have been a vegetarian since Oct of last year.
