Making sushi rolls

I found a recipe on AllRecipes.com that I'd like to

try out tonight. I have an avocado I need to use up

before it goes bad, as well as some tofu I dethawed.

The recipe is for sushi rolls using those items along

with cucumber, seasonings and the usual rice.

I picked up nori when I was last at the Asian market,

however I don't have a bamboo mat. Is it hard to roll

sushi without one? Also, I have basmati rice at home

and will probably use that as my rice so I hope I can

get some kind of stickiness from that.

Has anyone here rolled their own sushi?

you can add a little sugar to the rice to make it stickier if necessary.

if you are rolling them w/ the nori on the outside you should be fine

with/ the mat.

you can use a towel, if necessary.. but you can also use the nori!

sounds yummmmy!

The bamboo mat makes a nice firm roll. I make them all the time. Are you

making sushi rice with rice vinegar and fanning it until it cools? Look on the

internet for a sushi rice recipe. I have a good one at home........Donna

I do have rice vinegar. I was probably going to cook

my basmati rice in my rice cooker, like I always do,

and toss it a little with vinegar.

I have never made sushi rice so will check around more

whne I get home from work.
