Guest guest
Chistie, Being in Scotland I'm not sure if you are aware of the holiday celebrated in the U.S. and at many other countries around the world. On April 6 every year we celebrate our Scottish heritage on Tartan Day. Right now members of our local Scottish dance group are entertaining students with Scottish dancing at the university here. And I'm sure there are many celebrations and parades in other cities as well. I'm not sure if Tartan Day is celebrated in Scotland on April 6 as everyday in Scotland is " Tartan Day " . Guest guest
Hi William No, I had no idea about tartan day. You are right in that it is tartan day here everyday, particularly here in Edinburgh where we are chock-a-block with tartan shops. Do you have your kilt on today, then? Although I've been living in Scotland for 30 years I'm actually of Irish descent so I don't have a Scots tartan :-( but many years ago I worked for the chief of the Clan Donald and we had to wear one of the MacDonald tartans (I think it was the hunting tartan.) Guest guest
In the St. Louis area we had our celebration last weekend, with games, dancing, food and single malts! We also have a fabulour microbrewery which makes a Scotch Ale every year, which debuts on Jan. 25, Robert Burns' birthday. Everyone wears their kilts, they serve haggis, scotch eggs, salmon, etc. The pub owner writes a poem to the ghost of Robert Burns, and there's generally a response from the ghost later (after a considerable amount of Scotch Ale has been consumed).
