Guest guest
I have yet to have a bad vegetarian meal, really...since I cook/make my own food now 98% of the time, so if I ever do come across a bad vegetarian meal, chances are, it will be my own fault, LOL...but I'm sure the stories that we'll get from this will be VERY entertaining! LOL ***Sara*** So what's been yours? On an airline, at a function? Mine was on a domestic US airline -- I got a little plastic tray with 2 compartments, 1 filled with steamed carrots and the other with steamed CELERY (which is truly icky!). Not even a lemon slice to squeeze over the top. My first thought was that the menu planner had just broken up with a vegetarian. Guest guest
Bring on the peanut butter sandwiches! I don't know how you were able to eat what they served to you. That's not a meal, it's leftovers. The least they could have done is use crisp celery sticks, and stuff it with cheese and chopped green olives. Guest guest
Our company Christmas dinner was held on " The Queen Mary " and being the only vegetarian served out of 250 guests I sat and waited for my meal that was brought out last by the chef himself, everyone looked jealous and started making comments about the vegetarian getting special treatment and look at that expensive sterling covered dish. When I lifted the top off, it was a hugh broccoli forest! Nothing but crowns standing tall with those fancy paper wrappers around the bottom like they decorate the standing roasts with.....LOL I didn't say a word. Everyone was in such shock that I ended up with a plate filled with spoonsfuls of my coworkers rice pilaf and asparagus. The General Mgr. was very upset, I saw him march off to the kitchen, next thing I know here's a huge plate of linguine placed before me with an array of stir fried veggies. That's #1, Now for #2 , I got stuck on jury duty, at lunck I found one fast food place, I asked for a veggie burrito, I only had a few minutes to hurry back to court so I open this thing in the car and take a bite, it's a tortilla filled with lettuce, that's it. Lettuce and nothing else, not even one bean......LOL They charged me $3 for it too! Donna " I've been imitated so well, I've heard people copy my mistakes. Guest guest
I had one of those terrible supposed to be veg. meals on a plane once also. A packet of peanuts, some veggies sticks and a little plastic bowl of iceberg with one little packet of greasy blah ranch dressing. Good thing I had a p & j sandwich in my purse. I had a feeling I might need it. Marsha
Guest guest
I ate at a Cuban restaurant with my friends. I was served a whole plate of yucca or malanga or something that tasted like mashed potatoes gone wrong. They did add some fried plantains on the side. Guest guest
I take back what I said about never having a bad vegetarian meal. I have had one, I just didn't remember till now, LOL. It was in a town about 24 miles from here, at McDonald's. Mom ordered me a side salad, thinking it would be like a full-scale salad with lettuce, tomato, carrots, etc., only smaller. Little did we know, it would just be this little plastic bowl filled with romaine lettuce with a little mozerella sprinkled on it. I downed it, but if my mom and uncle would have let me, I would have went in and screamed at the manager at the Mickey Dee's, LOL. I could just see it now... " THIS ISN'T A SALAD! THIS IS LETTUCE! LETTUCE AND CHEESE! LAST I HEARD, THIS WAS NOT A SALAD!!! " Oh well, LOL. Too bad my aunt still didn't work at that McDonald's, I coulda just complained to her, LOL. ***Sara***

Guest guest
i've enjoyed reading everyone's awful veggie meal experiences. the nice resaurants seem to be the worst! you would think the chefs' would be excited at the chance to be creative with a veggie dish. oh well. hopefully things are changing. a few years ago, a friend (also a vegetarian) and i went to hear linda ellerbee speak about her battle with addiction. it was at some fancy hotel in fort worth. we had to pay $15 for the meal and got a plate of bland steamed carrots and boiled potatoes (other people's meals came with a baked potato!...which i would have preferred). we had to stop off for dinner at a tex-mex place on the way home. i grew up in a vegetarian house and my mom was a good cook, but one time she experimented with some tomato and rice casserole. she worked on it so long, but it was just awful. we ended up eating peanut butter and crackers for dinner. susie
Guest guest
It just goes to show how ill-informed people can be. I can't understand a classically trained Chef not knowing any better. Nowadays, we can even go to a restaurant and order a Gluten Free entrée. Hopefully there is hope for other Chefs continuing education as well. But it does seem to be a long time in coming. Guest guest
I had to stop on the highway once and this is what I got in a greasy spoon place. A plate of canned peas and a stale slice of carrot cake. The waitress said she hoped the 2 vegetables were ok. I guess the carrot cake looked like a vegetable to her...:{ Chelsea
Guest guest
I hear yo talking. I've had the same experience before. I'm also diabetic and learned to carry PBJs in my purse. So that was always a life saver. Joanie
Guest guest
Mmmm! I'd rather have a lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise sandwich. Joanie
Guest guest
Oh I am laughing so hard reading these! Great stories! This one reminds of my mom's trip to Indiana last summer for her won't say how many high school reunion. In a small diner, she asked for a veggie burger and the waitress said " Well, we have a burger with some veggies ON it. Guest guest
I was working away from home this weekend at a venue we have visited many times before. Things did not bode well for me when we arrived and one of my colleagues was greeted with the comment that " the vegan lady doesn't come here any more, does she. " This was an hour before dinner was to be served. The kitchen staff were rather perturbed to hear that I was upstairs and when we went down for dinner I was presented with a plate of undercooked boiled potatoes and overcooked cauliflower. Fortunately we had stopped off at the supermarket on our way there and so later on I had a bowl of avocado with fresh lime juice, banana and strawberries which was an extraordinarily good combination. Nothing much improved for the rest of the weekend (Saturday's lunch was a few bits of iceberg lettuce, 4 cherry tomatoes, half a hard boiled egg (for a vegan?!) and a corn on the cob) so I shall know to be prepared the next time we are back there in September and take plenty of back- up provisions.
