Guest guest
That's what I do. Eat spicy foods and cook spicy recipes. I need a lot of flavor to satisfy my appetite. Joanie
Guest guest
Do you take vitamins? Are you prone to anemia or have you had your iron checked recently? Most people think " cravings " are a pregnant thing - but everyone has them, they're just much stronger in pregnant women. Anyhow, point being, usually when your body is craving something, it's b/c you're deficient in that area. So perhaps your body is telling you that you need more iron. And eating Iron rich foods w/ calcium rich foods inhibits the iron absorption, so you have to eat iron rich foods the " right way " in order for your body to properly receive the iron. Vitamins are always a good idea for anyone since so much of our food is over processed anyhow. Just a thought --Stacee
Guest guest
Pamela, Try eating mild green chilis that are canned when you get these cravings for meat. Mild green chilis are specific for chocolate cravings so I assume that it would work for meat cravings also. Also, try raw garlic, mustard or somespicy thing in your food but I would try the green chilis first. I think that they are the same thing as the Anaheim chili. Maybe someone here has a more info on the type of chili that are green chilis. Hi from NYC, need some advice!! Hi, My name's Pam and I love the idea of this group! I'm new here but have been an on-off vegetarian for about 5 years. I had a question and a confession: do any of you guys ever want to sit down and have a HUGE hamburger with all the fixin's? I seem to be having these moments all the time lately, and all the fake chicken and all the veggie burgers in the world will not calm this craving down! This is the reason I've been on-off for the past 5 years. I do really well for about a year and then....forget about it, I can't stand it. The worse part is when I start eating meat again, I can't even really enjoy it, b/c of what meat represents. I'd love some suggestions/advice because I really don't want to start eating meat again, but I'm about to lose control! Guest guest
Hi Pam, I've been a vegetarian since October 20, 2005. I don't crave meat so much as I just catch a lot of flack for not eating it, and that in itself tempts me to eat it just to satisfy those around me. But I know that If I did, I would feel really awful. Every time I think about eating meat, I think about the reasons I went veggie in the first place...for the animals. I know if I put meat in my mouth, it will make me feel awful. Gardenburgers are good, but are nothing like meat. If you've been eating veggie burgers like those, it's no wonder you crave meat! LOL...I like the Boca burgers and I also really like the Morningstar Farms burgers. Morningstar Farms also make " chicken " patties which, in my opinion, you could fool the most devout carnivore with. But if you should choose to eat the meat, don't beat yourself up about it too much. There are flexitarians who are pretty much vegetarians but will eat meat occasionally. Every little bit you do does help, and you should feel great about that. :-) Hope this helped!!! ***Sara***
Guest guest
Thanks Beth, sounds reasonable, i'm just a perfectionist, so i tend to beat myself up for eating meat, even if it's a little. Pam
Guest guest
Stacee, Thanks for the advice, i was actually looking into vitamins hoping that would provide some relief from these crazy cravings. I'll go to Whole Foods and see if someone there can suggest something. Thanks again, Pamela

I'm proud of how far you've come since October!! Awww, thankyou! Now I >occasionally eat them, but they are pretty fatty (less than the real >thing, but still). I love them. I guess it's 'cause before I was a vegetarian I was a big chicken fiend, in love with chicken, so when I discovered how they tasted so much like the real thing, I fell in love with them. They also have these things called Meal Starters from Morningstar Farms, they sell them in " chicken " and " steak " varieties, I've used both and I really like them. They're not like the patties or the nuggets, they're un-breades strips that have been seasoned. >Excellent point, Sara. I'm registered on the message boards at PETA2 (the division of PETA geared more toward the younger generation) and I see " vegan snobbery " a lot because PETA2 encourages full veganism, but accepts vegetarianism just as much. But like I said, every little bit helps, whether you're a full vegetarian or just eat one vegetarian meal a week! :-) ***Sara***

Guest guest
Pamela, You can eat the chilis out of the can. I was thinking that you could just put them on your food like a veggie burger or whatever you make. Let us know what works for you. You can also roast the Anaheims and take the skin offf and put them in your food. GB Re: Hi from NYC, need some advice!! Guest guest
--Hello Yes I agree that sometimes others give you such a hard time that you just want to give in and eat like them. Then they would leave you alone. But I also think it would make me sick since I stopped eating meat because of the animals too. But some people cant give it up all at once and it is hard to find certain foods. I like the Morningstar veggie burgers too. my faves are the black bean and the garden veggie cheryl - In , RhymeMaster0313 wrote: > > Hi Pam, > > I've been a vegetarian since October 20, 2005. Guest guest
When I first became vegetarian the fake meat stuff tasted horrible, it took a while before I gave it another go and now it's OK. You can make awesome chicken parm. with the chicken patties. A recipe that I used while disgusted my the fake meat products was tacos using baked beans. I mixed a taco seasoning packet (a non-meat one) and carrots with the beans, to this I added tomatoes and lettuce and put it in a taco shell. You could also try different types of the fake stuff like black bean burgers and spicy chicken. Good Luck! There are a ton of recipes here, you do not need to use those fake products.
