Guest guest
I'm a newbie named Cindy and I want to post my favorite comfort food recipe. It's out of my Mother's old 1946 Fannie Farmer cookbook. I grew up on this and still make it frequently and thought I would share it here. Fanny Farmer's Original Macaroni & Cheese 8 ounces of macaroni (elbow) 4 Tbls. butter or margarine 4 Tbls. flour 1 cup milk 1 cup cream 1/2 teaspoon salt black pepper top taste 2 cups cheddar cheese 1/2 cup buttered breadcrumbs ( a dash of mustard powder is optional) Preheat oven to 400F. Cook and drain macaroni. In large saucepan melt butter, add flour and add salt and pepper, whisk in the pan to blend. Pour in milk and cream gradually, stirring constantly. Reduce heat and cook 10 minutes, add cheddar cheese little by little and keep stirring until cheese melts. Turn flame off. Add macaroni to the saucepan and toss to coat with sauce. Transfer to a baking dish. Sprinkle with the buttered breadcrumbs Bake 20 minutes or longer until top is golden brown and the edges get crunchy. Messenger with Voice.
