Guest guest
Dear Donna, Bok Choi leaf will NOT work :-( It goes soft during boiling and the mixture will leaked out into the water. Coconut leaves (weaved together) will work but heh - very time consuming. Are there any large leaf plants that can withstand boiling temperatures? I can't think of one and banana leaves are not as strong as Bamboo leaves. Any takers? I can try to ask but if I can't find them I was wondering if bok choy or something else might work. I shall go on a bamboo leaf mission now. Thanks again, Donna --- Wee K Chew <techiewee wrote: > Dear Donna, > > I truly have no idea :-( > Maybe someone in the group can think of some other " non-poisonous " > leaf with similar size to Bamboo Leaf? > I hope so as I do sympathise with you lot across the > pond, who have no > access to Chinese Supermarkets. > Do you have access to Chinese Supermarket? > > > Best Wishes, > Wee > > > > > > On Behalf Of > Donnalilacflower > Sunday, May 14, 2006 9:38 PM > GROUP > Wee bamboo leaves > > > Great recipe, now if I can't find n]bamboo leaves > what > could you use for a sub? > > > > Tired of spam? Guest guest
Dear Beth :-) It is difficult to fold Grape leaves into a *pyramid*. Grape Leaf are simply not large enough, rice may leak out through the joints. You will need a lot of leaves to seal the joints :-( I can easily be wrong but I have not seen a Grape Leaf large enough for this purpose. The Pyramids are approx. 2-4inches each side. Any smaller will increase the amount of Pyramids to use up the prepared stuffing. (Heh, you can roll some pastry and use up the remaining stuffing). I think that is why Bamboo Leaf is much better. You get less, but bigger pyramids. Best Wishes, Wee On Behalf Of Beth Renzetti Monday, May 15, 2006 8:59 PM Re: Re: bamboo leaves substitute ? - Donna sounds odd but grape leaves?
