Guest guest
I can't find any really good articles online, but I can write my own notes... I gave up bottled water a few months ago for many reasons: - water from the tap has to meet approval from the city, bottled water does not - bottled water sits on the shelf for a long time and grows bacteria - the plastic used in water bottles is very low quality and can breakdown into the water - many people don't recycle their bottles - the demand for bottled water has grown so much in the past few years that springs are starting to dry up - as well, caves (in Canda) are in danger of caving in - we have all become used to paying for something that is free. Bottled water is being called " The biggest scam of the 20th century). Reverse the letters from " evian " and you get " naive " what to do about it: I went to the dollar store and bought a few different good quality plastic bottles I use one each day and fill it with water from my brita. If I'm out and I drink it all, I find a water fountain or just use tap water (after letting it run for a while) AT the end of the day i let it soak iin soapy water and wash it well - if I had a dishwasher i would use that. on a semi - related topic, did anyone see south park two weeks ago? Everyone bought hybrid cars.. they got rid of the smug, but the city ended up with huge clouds of " smug " pretty funny mike
Guest guest
I use tap water as well. I have heard that you are better off using glass bottles. Know this is hard to carry. Diana
Guest guest
> I have heard that you are > better off using glass bottles. There is an article a few messages back where a scientist says the worry about plastic is another media sham. I also asked Dr Joe ( my radio station's staff phd scientist professor guy) and he agrees - just wash them well and replace them every year or so and you have nothing to worry about. That's why I bought 4 bottles, so I don't use the same one every day mike

Guest guest
My family also drinks tap water. We purchased a " Klean Kanteen " for each of us about a year or so ago and just wash them each night. My two children take theirs to school each day...we had to buy the 27 oz. bottles when we purchased them, but now they have 18 oz - lunch box friendly ones! If you are interested we purchased directly from the website www.kleankanteen.com - they are stainless steel bottles. Barb

Guest guest
Glass is safer and is biodegradable. Plastic is not. I use gallon jugs which are recycled organic apple juice containers. I fill them for .25 cents each at my local health food store. Single bottled water is very expensive and adds so much to our land fills. Easier to fill a carry along bottle and it might cost 2 cents compared to $1.00+ for individual bottles. Always try to buy food items in glass bottles and re-use the bottles for food storage. Much safer, cleaner and better for our Earth. Guest guest
Not only have we gotten used to paying for something that is free but when you think about where some of that bottled water comes from, we are paying for something that's already ours! Some of those glaciers are on federal lands; companies get to lease these lands for mining and other purposes for very little money. I try to buy filtered water, not 'spring' water if I'm on the road and have forgotten my bottle at home. I bought a nice metal flask but sometimes I forget it This website is more about gold mining than water but talks about the lease agreements: www.purewater.org. A good documentary is Blue Gold - about some kick-butt women villagers in Kerala India who call Coca Cola to account for what it does to their village water supply. hehehehe Mike I love South Park. Have you seen that comedian who imitates someone from Perrier talking about selling water to the Americans? Too funny. Guest guest
In digests #879 & 880 there was some chat about using bottled water that I found very interesting. One thing I use for carrying water around is just a regular mason jar with the screw-on lids. They work great in a cooler for keeping food cold, too; just toss in some ice cubes. I like the tall skinny jars that are used for jams and pickles I guess. They wash up so easy, and since they are glass they don't taint the flavor. I just have never enjoyed drinking from plastic anything... icky taste. ~ PT ~ Just as so many rivers, so many showers of rain from above, so many medicinal springs do not alter the taste of the sea, so the pressure of adversity does not affect the mind of the brave man. For it maintains its balanced, and over all that happens it throws its own complexion, because it is more powerful than external circumstances. ~ Seneca (4 BC-65 AD)
