I love to eat them fresh in salads and as sandwiches. I can all of them I can for " instant " tomato soup -- I just put my hand blender in the jar of tomatoes and blend away till they are soup. Tomato sauce is another thing I can. That way I have my own organic tomatoes -- I allow no pesticides or chemical fertilizers here at all. I even go out and stomp the slugs that threaten my plants rather than use poisons that might harm my soil, plants or animals. I believe that if we take care of our Earth it will take care of us. Last summer the deer ate 360+ tomato plants, 72 pepper plants, 12 okra plants, 12 ground cherry plants right down to the nubs. Mind you out of all that I got one small cherry tomato. That was the whole harvest for me. Tonight I saw 4 young bucks out in the field eating grass. In spring the does and fawns come thru and munch down whatever they can. I need a tall fence about 1980 feet of it would be good. Lisa Marie <-- with dozens of empty jars :-(

Come to the wet side of Washington state in the shadow of Mt St Helens. Abundant fog, Plenty of rain, not always enough sun and where you rust instead of tan. And please be careful when walking and don't slip on a slug. Lisa Marie <-- I love where I live and hope to live here till I die an old old old wrinkled up prune of a woman. Guest guest
Thank you, this is very interesting since my Mom has fibromyalgia and was told to avoid the nightshade group. I had severe colitis growing up and the doctors put me on mega doses of Donnatal (belladonna) and I would feel like I was walking on a cloud, eyes out of focus, dry mouth, pupils dialated, etc. I finally ended up in the emergency room on IV's to clear my bloodstream. Know what? That pill never did anything for the colitis attacks either. most of that was from milk allergy and yet they would push large does of dairy on me and I got worse and worse until the allergist ran the patch test on my back and discovered my problem. Do you feel any effects from tomatoes? I love them also but they have a little too much acid for me to eat one a day....Donna kelownabc wrote: Here is more information on Solanaceae http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solanaceae they are very interesting plants. Many useful and many poisonous. Very useful plants too. Lisa Marie <-- loves to grow tomatoes
Guest guest
You can? I'm in the city and I have never ever known anyone that cans veggies. That is wonderful. I don't even know anyone that jars except my Gran. She would make me jars of guava jam from from her guava's I picked in the backyard. Now I never even see guava's in the market. Do you pickle vegies and jar them?.........D kelownabc wrote:In a message dated 6/27/2005 9:09:35 PM Pacific Standard Time, thelilacflower writes: > Do you feel any effects from tomatoes? Guest guest
This is very interesting to me since I just started an elimination diet yesterday. I'm hoping to find out if foods like diary, wheat, corn and some veggies (nightshade)effect me in a negative way. I'll let you know how it goes. I think it's correct in assuming " you are what you eat " , which even goes along with our topic on poverty, wealth and how healthy we eat. Good topic. Jane >>Do you feel any effects from tomatoes?
