No, I have wanted to try making it but I just never have yet..........Donna

organic_homestead <organic_homestead wrote:Actually I don't boil my

lasagna noodles. I just lay them right in,

dry, and make sure that I have enough moist ingredients. Then I cover

the casserole dish with aluminum foil and cook for about 50 min. The

noodles comes out great!

I got tired of cooking the noodles (hated the extra step) and my

sister told me that she never cooks them ahead. So I actually got a

good cooking tip from my sister! Of course I really prefer fresh pasta

and I used to get the good stuff from PastaWorks in Portland, OR. Oh,

I miss that place. One day I'm going to venture into making my own pasta.

I'm sure someone here has made their own pasta......Donna? Chanda?

Amy? Jenni? anyone?

Maybe when I get hit with the " nesting " part of pregnancy that will

include wanting to cook and bake alot?

Oh, I've, too, made gnocchi. But I want to try again with a different

recipe. The one I followed out of vegetarian times used soy flour and

I'm not sure if it was the intense protein or so much butter/oil but

my body rejected it soon after eating.

I've also made spatzle, which is a German version of gnocchi (sort

of). I even have a spatzle maker!

When I was in Germany I visited my friend's grandmother with her and

she was making pasta. She just rolled it out real thin and then used a

knife to cut the width of noodles she wanted. There were noodles

hanging all over her kitchen drying.

It looked so simple....why haven't I tried it yet?

I used to make my own pasta. I had the pasta maker by Ronco or is it

Popiel.

It worked great.

Lasagna was a 2 day project when I made my own noodles. One day I would

make the noodles and sauce, the next day I would make the lasagna

I try to buy the fresh lasagna noodles when I make lasagna and I don't boil

them first. I put sauce in the bottom of the pan then the noodles then some

sauce then I start layers my veggie mixture, cheese, sauce, noodles, sauce,

veggies, cheese, sauce, noodles,sauce.

I bake for about 45 minutes after 30 minutes I layer some cheese on the top

and then finish baking.

My veggie mixture is usually chopped broccoli, chopped spinach, shredded

carrots and some black olives.

spaetzle (its umlauted) is great. what amuses me is the different way

its prepared in the us versus in germany. side dish vs main dish,

cheese sauce vs butter, etc.

ate at my favorite vegetarian restaurant for the last time today :( see

you guys stateside!

That sounds so good, Gayle! Has anyone made lasagna in a crockpot before? I

was going to try that but I think Donnas excellent roll ups in the microwave

(thank you to the person who mentioned that) would be an easier and quicker

way. I've got 2 small glass dishes that I could probably fit 4-6 rollups

(depending on the size). I don't " cook " with the microwave so does anyone

have a suggestion as to how long to cook them in the sauce with cheese on

top. The veggies are already cooked and so are the noodles so it sounds like

it would just need to heat all the way through and melt the cheese.

Hi David:

No we don't really eat together. It would be nice if we were that close. I

live in Connecticut. I don't think anyone else is close to me.
