Guest guest
Hi All, This is real important. We could be saving someone from serious depression here. A friend of mine had mouth cancer and she literally had half her mouth removed. She has next to no saliva which makes eating normal stuff impossible. She is now a vegetarian, not for the same reasons as we are, but because meat is impossible. She is becoming so down because she says she is sick to death of Campbell's soup. Her problem is that she has next to no salivary glands so all she can eat is really wet stuff like soups and very saucy pasta cooked extra long. I need soup recipes and pasta sauce recipes for her, or anything that is super saucy (wet) or even veggie recipes that are super mushy. Any tried and true recipes here. I brightened her night when I told her I would ask the group, and there is hope of more than Campbell's soup. Thanks and blessings, Chanda

Guest guest
Chandra, I don't have recepies but have been dealing with dry mouth (have Sjogren's Syndrome, it destroys the moisture producing glands) for many years. Please tell her to consult her dentist. no saliva affects the teeth too and a dentist should have suggestions to help with the dry mouth. I've found chewing gum to stimulate my functioning sal. glands to produce more, always carry water- sipping all the time. Aromatherapy too, any smell that made the mouth water before surgery will encourage saliva flow from the remaining glands. (cinnamon works best for me ) Depression under these circumstances is totally normal- this big a change is equivelent to the death of a loved one- please encourage her to get counceling too - keep the depression from escalating and God knows she needs all the love and support there is!! Plus a group of cancer survivors dealing with similar problems will have helpful tips as well as moral support. If her oncologist doesn't know of any groups the oncology dept of the hospital should and the American Cancer society will too- pretty sure they have a web site. Hope this is helpful. Please tell her from me congrats on beating the cancer and hang in there, things will get better. Seems hard to beleive sometimes I know but life's proved it to me over and over again during my almost 57 years! peace and love, Angela PuterWitch <puterwitch wrote: Hi All, This is real important. Guest guest
Has she had butternut squash soup? I know it's a fall thing, but it's so good.... Peel, seed & chop a butternut. Put in a soup pot with broth to barely cover, apple juice to cover the rest of the way (just a little). Drop in a bay leaf and some mild curry powder. Peel, core and chop an apple and add that. Bring to a boil, lower the heat and simmer until very soft... remove the bay leaf and puree. Also, I have a recipe somewhere for watermelon soup... carrot soup... lentil soups would have some great protein for her.... garlic & rice soup... lemme know if any of those sound appealing to her! My prayers go her way!! Amy , " PuterWitch " <puterwitch@c...> wrote: > Hi All, > This is real important. We could be saving someone from serious depression here. Guest guest
thanks Angela, but she cannot chew gum as the surgery removed much of her mouth. Also she was involved with a support group, but stopped for the same reason my aunt stopped, as soon as she would make a friend, they would die, and leave her mourning. She really doesn't need any emotional support now anyway, she has friends and all, it's just maddening that she can't eat what she used to. I am sure the archives will give me good ideas as I see they are tried and true, that's the important thing here, that they are tried and true.
