Guest guest
after much thought, i have decided to switch to a lacto-ovo diet in effort to lose the weight I need to, to be healthy. I belong to ediets and tried their vegan plan, and while they have good recipes and i have done my best to be OP (on plan), with my schedule, it has been very difficult, I will admit. This is not to say I will stay lacto-ovo (i will do my best to stay vegan to the best of my abilities), but as much of a food lover as I am, I believe it in my best intereset to revert to lacto-ovo, at least for the time being, in order to give myself the latitude I need to lose the weight i need to (up to 50 lbs). I will do my best to be organic & free-range as I can within my new budget that my new job allows. Luckily, living in las vegas, that is not too terribly difficult. I would sincerely appreciate your support in all this. I do not make this decision lightly, believe me, please. Guest guest
thanks jennie. i already well know that. this group has been there through me through the last several years, so i definitely know i can count on them. as for the (pagan vegetarians listmum), that's another veggie group I moderate. i've strived these last several months to lose weight on a vegan diet on ediets, and it's been very difficult with looking for a new jbo and other personal & *%## in my life, et.c etc. io'm just making the choice I believe is best for me at the moment. Guest guest
Different strokes for different folks, whatever works. There are plenty of lacto-ovo vegetarians in this group. You can gain or drop weight in either category, just depends what you are consuming. I love chips and nuts and those are vegan but high in calories. You could eat a dozen egg whites with hardly a calorie nd that's ovo........Donna yasminduran wrote:after much thought, i have decided to switch to a lacto-ovo diet in effort to lose the weight I need to, to be healthy. We found a great little Greek place & some asian places nearby! m
Guest guest
Hi everyone, I'm new to being a veg. What is a lacto-ovo vegetarian? Milk and eggs? Thank you! Guest guest
I offer you all the support you need, Megan. Thank you for letting us know what you are doing and going through. This is a great group for support and we'll never judge you for any moments of being " off plan " that occur. There are many wonderful recipes, that are healthy and low-fat in our recipe files. Of course there are also some recipes that are a bit more indulgent; but heck if you make a cheesecake from silken tofu, it can't be that bad, right?! Having a hectic schedule definitely makes it more difficult, but it is doable. There are also lots of ideas in our recipe files for quick snacks or take alongs. Keep us posted on your new endeavor! This list supports fully both vegans and vegetarians alike so nobody here will come down on your decision to change your diet to suit your current path. i know you were a lacto-ovo veg before you went vegan a year or so ago, so you know your stuff, but if you need any help or have any questions about recipes or product info, don't hesitate to ask. There are so many informative members here that someone usually has an idea or suggestion. *s* Have a nice day and again, good luck! ~ pt ~ Freedom makes a huge requirement of every human being. Guest guest
Megan, everyone else has already shown the support I've found this wonderful group to be filled with, but I thought I'd add my two cents... I tried desperately to go the vegan path a couple of years ago (I've been vegetarian over a dozen years), because intellectually and emotionally I know that is the best path for me. However, I only made it two months. My husband loves my cooking, but he also likes to go out to eat... when I celebrate with friends, often it's by going out to eat... and out, it's very difficult to find vegan dishes in a place that will also cater to the carnivores/omnivores/l-o-veg folks in the group... So I compromised. I'm " mostly vegan " . At home, 95% of my food is vegan; when I go out, I don't worry about it as much. Obviously, you have your ideals, and the philosophy of life you believe in, but then you have live in the real world too... and life's about compromises... some big, some small... hopefully none are too much compromise to live with. So as you go through your journey know that you are not alone. We all support you in whatever you need to do... *hugs* Amy
Guest guest
I am kinda in the middle. I never drink milk, only soy and rice milk. I do use cow's milk in recipes though, and I do eat eggs still. I wasn't going to because I thought that eggs are fertilized, but then I learned that they are not, and so I started again. I try to cut down on butter and dairy margarine by using earth balance or benecol, and I use oils when cooking most of the time. I still must put butter on my corn and carrots, LOL.
