Lately, I've been on a fried green tomatoes kick, and make them much

like the recipe in the movie of the same name: I take the biggest and

greenest unripened tomatoes from my garden, wash them well, and slice

thin: dip in beaten egg or egg substitute, dredge in flour, then corn

meal, fry in peanut oil 'til golden brown on both sides, drain on

paper towels, and season with salt-n-pepper to taste--delish!

And just a few hours ago, we harvested our first batch of green

peppers and concord grapes--The entire house smells like

Manischewitz :)

By the way, I'm new here--my name is Helene and I'm a stay-at-home

mother of 3 ages, 13, 9 and 3--my husband Peter is a special

education teacher and newly ordained Anglican priest, and we've been

married 14 years--we live in NJ. Hobbies include, but are not

limited to, reading, writing, music, and gardening. I've been a

vegetarian/vegan since 1987--my family are nowhere as diligent as I

am, but the best I can do is set a good example.

Looking forward to participating in any and all discussion as much as

time allows.

Blessings,

Helene

Welcome to the group, Helene.

I wish I wasn't so stingy with my tomatoes, I find it hard to pick

them green, but the few times I've made Fried Green Tomatoes, they are

soooo good! I also have lots of yellow squash coming up, so I should

do a big fry one of these days!

Hope you enjoy the group and thanks for starting out with a recipe post!
