Guest guest
i thought it would be fun to start this up here. i have done it on other groups i own and it is always a fun way to spark new ideas and learn about eachother's different [or similar] paths. The group question this week is: What is your favorite season, if you had to choose, and what types of foods just seem to define or speak to the season? ~ pt ~ Come you in and sit you down, What you lost shall here be found. Bowl and cup shall slake your lack, Cast the bundle from your back. No more wandering, no more war, Come you in and close the door. ~ Caitlin Matthews, " The Wanderer's Welcome Home "

Guest guest
Well, I like them all to a certain extent. Each has its place in the scheme of things. I must admit to liking the temperatures and the weather in the Spring and Fall a bit more. Somewhere between in the 60's and 70's (maybe a little of the upper 50's and low 80's) is usually comfortable particularly if the night cools into the 50's for sleep. Were I live rain may be ending or beginning in those seasons but it isn't usually heavy and long-lasting, as it can be in the winter. Spring - flowers blooming. Hm, foods, peas, lettuce Fall - Harvest of summer plants, peppers, tomatoes. (of course we still have some flowers blooming now but not as extensive as in the spring, well, at least as far as what I have planted in the back yard.) Guest guest
Well...my favorite season hands down is fall. I love the colors, the smells and the cooling temps...I love wearing sweaters & warm socks. I love back to school time & apples on the trees. I love the pumpkins!! I enjoy getting back into the kitchen and baking appley, cinnamonny, nutmeggy things. I love that it is getting back to soup and stew time...I love, love, love soup and a loaf of good bread. I also love those winter root veggies. Ooo...and teas and coffees to warm you & before long hot chocolate...and I serve the kids warm pudding instead of putting it in the fridge to chill... We just got back from our neighborhood apple orchard - we adopt a tree there - it wasn't a great year for apples this year unfortunately, but we still got quite a few. In fact, I used some the other day to make a casseroley dish...I'll have to grab the recipe and share...dh loved it, two kids liked it, the other, well... ANYWAY, we just got back from the annual cider squeeze - dh is boiling our cider and the kids are eager to have some. We know it is fall, they've gone back to school & we have fresh cider in the fridge!! m
Guest guest
I've read recently that down here we don't have spring or fall. We have summer, hotter summer and hottest summer. but....I like both spring and fall. I think I like spring the best. However the food I look forward to the most is in our crappy hot and humid summer. I think about that time I'm really gearing up for fruit ..... it's melons, grapes, strawberries and the rest of that goodness. Also I look forward to avocados during these months (crap I forgot to buy avocados for the cold avocado soup - doh! - will have to make extra trip!). Guest guest
Spring is a very close second to Autumn for me. I like weather that's not too hot nor too cold the most. Sun punctuated by a rain showers here and there. Watching clouds float by bigger than any human thing below them. Clouds taking the form of angels too. And what Autumn has in its favor over Spring is all the fruit that ripens then, and I'm counting pumpkins and squash in that consideration. Dry beans too. I especially like raw apples. This is one food that being organically grown makes a big difference in the flavor. I prefer the Oregon and Washington apples to the California apples. The Oregon and Washington apples tend to be tarter and crisper, where California apples tend to be too sweet and mushy - well, that makes them good for applesauce. I do like things about Summer and Winter too - skinny dipping in Summer, the crisp clarity of a freezing Winter night.... , " ~ PT ~ " <patchouli_troll> wrote: > Come you in and sit you down, > What you lost shall here be found. > Bowl and cup shall slake your lack, > Cast the bundle from your back. > No more wandering, no more war, > Come you in and close the door. > ~ Caitlin Matthews, " The Wanderer's Welcome Home " Amen.
