Guest guest
Oh I almost forgot another favorite...tofu pups in blankets or corn dog mufffins. Either wrap halved tofu pups in commercial crescent roll dough and bake (pillsbury is one of the vegan brands, if you're vegan). or... Mix up your favorite corn muffin recipe or mix (Martha White, think is the vegan one, but check, I know I've got some in my cabinet--the packets are small, so you may want to make 2) and add one pkg sliced up tofu pups. Bake. Serve either with ketchup and/or a variety of mustards. If you don't mention that the tofu pups are vegan, no one will notice. I've served this to many a carnivore who was surprised that I cooked meat for them (after they ate, I revealed the truth. ) or... Chilidogs! Tofu pups, buns, relish, ketchup, mustard, and chili made by mixing 1 can bush's original chili starter can (vegan!) with 1 c tvp and 1 can diced tomatoes. MMMM! or... beanie weenies...1 can bush's vegetarian beans (large) mixed with 1 pkg sliced tofu pups. YUM! another variation on the theme? Tofurkey brats on the grill with sauteed peppers and onions. Guest guest
Hello again Veronica, These are excellent ideas! yes, the tofu dogs wrapped sound wonderful, and undetectable! you know, come to think of it, the way these fellows watch a ball game, by the second half I could most likely feed them tofu from a bucket and they wouldn't notice. :hearty laugh: LOL I will definitely do the wrapped dogs. I have tried the Quorn brand over this past summer and was pleasantly surprised at the similarity of the taste of those and the ones dad used to make on the grill. thank you once again, Ron Diamond Dog <diamonddog wrote: Oh I almost forgot another favorite...tofu pups in blankets or corn dog mufffins. Guest guest
Hello Janice with the lovely name, I purchased the Quorn dogs from a Whole Foods Market near work. There is no Whole Foods Market near my home. Fortunately one of the few upsides to my long commute is there is a Whole Foods nearby. I have for you a link to the Quorn site where you can enter your area and see if the product is sold in your reasonable proximity http://www.quorn.us/firange.htm If not I am sure there are comparable brands but I am not one to speak on the matter as I have only tried the Quorn brand. Guest guest
those are all great snack ideas, veronica. a big pot of vegetarian chili, lentil and barley stew, or spicy pinto beans with cornbread and fixin's on the side (like chopped onions, chopped jalapenos, shredded cheese, and hot sauce)come to my mind for hearty, manly dishes. tortilla chips with salsa and lots of ice cold beer are mandatory. susie --- Diamond Dog <diamonddog wrote: > Oh I almost forgot another favorite...tofu pups in > blankets or corn dog > mufffins. > > Either wrap halved tofu pups in commercial crescent > roll dough and bake > (pillsbury is one of the vegan brands, if you're > vegan). > > or... > > Mix up your favorite corn muffin recipe or mix > (Martha White, think is the > vegan one, but check, I know I've got some in my > cabinet--the packets are > small, so you may want to make 2) and add one pkg > sliced up tofu pups. Guest guest
Hey Ron, here is one that my hubby likes and he is a meat eater. It is more of a supper than snack, but manly, in my hub's opinion. Brown some fresh garlic and onions in extra virgin olive oil with a bit of butter or margarine added (I often use soybean margarine made by Shedds)Scrape this onto a plate and save. Add TVP and lightly brown, adding more EVOO and butter if needed. Add coarse salt and fresh ground black pepper after browning. Combine with the onions and garlic and a bit of water and heat through with any other seasonings you prefer. Sometimes I add mushrooms. Squirt a dab of ketchup in the pan and mix in simmering a little longer. When it tastes good to you, mix in some sour cream, heat through, and put it on top of mashed potatoes or baked potatoes or noodles or pasta. If you like more gravy in it, brown some flour along with the TVP and add more water, half and half or milk. I vary it by adding chopped celery or peppers or carrots, or all three, sometimes. You can add anything you like such as peas or green beans or even corn. Kind regards, Jo (joannolivia) <...Ron Hess <ronhess0760> wrote: > Hello Susie (meaning Lily, a beautiful flower) > I am doing much better I suppose as I decide on the chile prior to reading this email...>
