Guest guest
I was told by the woman at the cosmetics counter at a well known store that collegen in products like face and hand cream was all synthetic and she seemed very knowledgible. Because of that information, a bought something with collegen in it. Please tell me this is true. If not...well let's just say that I'm not going to be very happy. Does anyone know of any websites that answer questions like this for next time. I googled my question and got mostly information on collegen injections and I don't have a question about those. Anybody???? Stef
Guest guest
Hi Stef, what a very good question. i don't know how that lady could have told you that all face cream/hand cream collagen comes from synthetic sources. From what i have been able to find out, collagen can come from many different sources and it would greatly depend upon the product. Your best source of specific info would be to either call or email the product company you are interested in knowing about. They would likely be able to tell you the formulation they use in their line of products. By basic definition collagen is: " a fibrous protien constituent of bone, cartilage, tendon and other connective tissue. It is converted to gelatin by boiling. Guest guest
Thank you to both Chris and PT. I feel so " newly " a vegetarian even though it is going on 3 years because I seem to learn new things everyday. Then I say to myself, " Self...how could you not have known that? " and " Why didn't I think about that? " Stuff like this drives me crazy because I end up feeling stupid for believing someone who, by the way, should have just told me that she didn't know, instead of saying something that wasn't true. This happened over the summer to me also when a salesperson at a well known shoe store told me that they have to say on the shoe when there is genuine leather on it. I don't know if I'm too trusting or just plain stupid. Stef ~ Argue not with dragons, for thou art crunchy and go well with brie. Guest guest
Hey Stef, no, no, no, do not feel stupid and get down on yourself. I've been veggie since the early 80's and only recently learned about gelatin in sour cream, yogurt, margerine, sugar in canned peas and kidney beans. of course canned veggies are vegetarian so I never read the labels! same with stuff with gelatin - never occured to me it would be used in so many dairy products ! We just do the best we can and keep learning. some of my prescription meds only come in gelatin caps, being on disability price determines my shoe purchase more than is it leather or not. We can't avoid all animal products, too many are used in our world. Native Americans used every part of the animals they killed, and honored, respected and gave thanks to those animals, I try to keep that attitude tho' I'm not Native Amer. only the great spirit is perfect, we humans can only try - and that's ok hugs + peace, Angela who I am is fine, it's just this body that's disabled! Guest guest
Aw, never feel that way, Stef. i am learning new things every day too. The best way to learn is to be bold enough to ask questions, and then check the answers out. i am so glad you asked your question here because i learned new things from Dr. Chris' answer. Like, i didn't know that most collagen was synthetic in cosmetics. i just assumed it wasn't until i checked with the manufacterer of whatever product i am interested in. I still do that as a rule. Most companies are very helpful and freely give out information when you send an email to them or call their 800 number. So keep on asking the good questins so i can keep learning along with you! ~ pt ~ Happiness comes of the capacity to feel deeply, to enjoy simply, to think freely, to risk life, to be needed. ~ Storm Jameson , steff davidson <steffdav46> wrote: > > Thank you to both Chris and PT.
