Guest guest
i went to one of the domino playing gatherings last night, and usually there are a few things i can eat on the buffet besides what i bring. But this time it seemed like everyone put meat in every dish they brought on purpose! i know it wasn't the case, that they did it on purpose, but it was very strange indeed that there was meat in everything. The hostess make BBQ and said, " I made chicken for you. You still eat chicken right? " ... Um, no. *lol* Then she also had some yummy looking stuffed jalapenos. i asked her what was in them only to find they had meat, ground beef [ew] mixed into the cream cheese filling! There was a salad.... but even it had breaded chicken bits mixed in! A Tex-Mex bean soup, meat again!!!! Another person brought shrimp with cocktail sauce. UGH! Now i brought some chips and onion dip. And then i made some artichoke and olive spread that i mixed with some extra sour cream for a dip consistency. i took some nice crackers for that. i should have done a veggie platter as well, but usually someone brings that so i didn't want to bring a second one. i had to sneak out and run to subway for a veggie sandwich while everyone was meating out! *lol* Next time i will eat before i go and take a few more items that are veggie safe. ~ pt ~ The higher a virtue is, the greater the number of things to which it extends. ~ Thomas Aquinas (1225-1274)
Guest guest
" Meating out " - LMAO. Sorry you had to go through that PT. Glad you got to at least eat a Veggie Delight. Luckily you weren't stuck with butter and crackers. S. Guest guest
i am laughing about it now, that's the truth. But last night i was slightly miffed. *lol* i mean who the heck puts ground beef in yummy stuffed jalapenos??? i never heard of such a thing! Oh well, yeah, at least there was more to eat than when Susie only had butter and crackers at her party thing. How weird was that? Butter and crackers??? *lol* Next domino party i am making some real food main dish items for me to eat. Top it off that i kicked domino ass, won, and this time we didn't play for money! Guest guest
That is a bad experience. I hate when people just throw animal in everything. I went to a party once and they had a salad, but they had put bacon bits on it! It's so frustrating. I am glad you at least got something to eat and hopefully they will realize that they didn't think about you and next time will be a better experience. ~Mel On 10/30/05, ~ PT ~ wrote: i went to one of the domino playing gatherings last night, and usually there are a few things i can eat on the buffet besides what i bring. Well ya know how much rich flavor ground beef adds to things - Oh wait no, they don't call that product " H@mburger HELPER " for nothing! It must be the wonderful texture of ground b33f. Yah, sure that's the ticket. Sheesh. Oh well, yeah, at least there was more to eat than when > Susie only had butter and crackers at her party thing. > How weird was that? Butter and crackers??? *lol* Yep, I had to throw that in to tease her. Butter and crackers - that was one heck of a posh party that she was invited to! Fancy shmancy crackers and butter. Dig in everyone! Next domino party i am making some real food main > dish items for me to eat. See that's just the thing - you shouldn't have to. I mean what is the fun in making something, taking it and eating it. You should have the wonderful party experience of enjoying other peoples cooking, recipes and dishes. Oh well, perhaps your fantastic veg dishes will be tried and under the surface they will realize that ground beef doesn't have to be a staple of every dish. Guest guest
Well! That didn't make for a fun eating experience! You know, I just bite the bullet now and ALWAYS bring a maindish when I am invited somewhere now. Sometimes it takes some of the fun out of it, but at least I know for a fact that I will have something to eat. Do these people know you well? You'd think that if they did, they would have made the dishes with the meat on the side...like the salad. More and more people serve stuff like salad dressing on the side, why not the meat. Sorry that it took some of the fun out of your evening. Stef ~ Argue not with dragons, for thou art crunchy and go well with brie. Guest guest
I had a similar situation happen at my son's school Halloween Party. It was just for three classes, so a group of about 40 children and then of course their parents and siblings. Everyone was expected to bring at least one dish. I brought something that I knew I could eat, just as you had done with your chips and dip. I arrived early, so I put my food on the long table that was going to be used for the buffet meal, and when I returned about an hour later to fix myself a plate, the only food I could eat were the items I brought. There were several 4ft long party subs (with meat), a big dish of franks and beans, loads of sweets made with milk and eggs, 3 rotissiree chickens, 6 buckets of KFC chicken, 8 Dominos pizzas, etc. I enjoyed the party, but I couldn't wait to get home to fix myself something to eat. On the upside, I didn't crave anything that was on that table, so I'm proud of myself for that, but on the downside, I now realize that it's going to take a bit more initiative on my part to be able to eat during social situations. Guest guest
Thanks Mel. Helps to have a place like this to come and rant about it all! i know you all can relate in part because this is just one of those things that happens to us vegetarians from time to time. The real bacon bits in a salad are just the ruination of a good typically safe veggie dish. i mean why not put the fakey bacon soy bits instead or just leave them on the side for folks to put in if they desire? The salad at this party was a nice Asian inspired dish with shredded cabbage, lettuces, some crumbled ramen noodles and such in a nice sweet ginger dressing. But it was all tainted with hunks of breaded chicken!!!! i was tempted to pick them out, but i looked and saw that would have been impossible. Oh well, maye they will be more considerate next time, but i won't hold my breath. It seems to be getting worse with this crew, not better. ~ pt ~ The man of belief is necessarily a dependent man.Ê He does not belong to himself, but to the author of the ideas he believes. ~ Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche (1844-1900) ~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~> , Melissa Hill <assilembob> wrote: > > That is a bad experience. Guest guest
Do you know that many bacon bit products ARE vegetarian? --- steff davidson <steffdav46 wrote: > Well! Guest guest
Thanks Stef. Last gathering we had a BBQ and i made a macaroni salad, and that was all i could eat until another lady showed up late with a huge green salad; that was lovely. Instead of the hamburgers they served i fixed myself a nice tomato sandwich with lettuce, pickles, and sliced cheese. With the mac salad, green salad, and sandwich i was a happy camper. Yes, i think i will just have to go prepared ahead of time. These people do know me well, and this is one of the first times that there was no food other than mine that i could eat. ~ pt ~ The test of good manners is to be patient with bad ones. ~ Solomon Ibn Gabirol ~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~> , steff davidson <steffdav46> wrote: > > Well!
