Guest guest
You won't believe this one. They lived on pure butter and cream too and they ate lot of eggs. That's why I don't worry about a cup of coffee or a slice of butter, as long as it's done with moderation and I have my blood checked periodically and everything is within range, I enjoy. Donna Melissa <mapalicka wrote: I was being a bit faciscious (can't spell) about coffee being health food. My point is that it is probably one of the less harmful vices (depending on your health/conditions), if we have to have a vice. Moderation being key, though I'm sure it helped that your grandparents were not drinking fat and sugar-laden coffee smoothie mocha lattes : ) , Donnalilacflower <thelilacflower wrote: > > My Gran and Grandpa were Swedes and I never saw the stove without a pot of strong black coffee , they both drank it day and night, they lived to be 86 and 97 so I really have no fear of coffee I just don't drink a huge amount of it and when I do it's black. Guest guest
I believe you, Donna! My father is 95 years old - takes NO medication of any kind, is in perfect health (unless you count his slow thyroid), and drinks coffee, cream, and uses butter. He eats a lot of sausage (and other meats) white potatoes, bread products, and no whole grains whatsoever. For a zillion years or so, mom had a big vegetable garden which they had for every meal. That was mostly corn, green beans, and tomatoes...nothing exotic like broccoli or cauliflower. LOL (Never had broccoli until I left home for college!) The last few years, he has really developed a sweet tooth. He has gone from a once-stocky man to a very thin one, but guess that's to be expected at his age. He drives a car, does yard work, and apparently (we just found this out) climbs roofs for fun! (Roofer forgot nails on the roof and my father couldn't stand that, so climbed up and " cleaned " the roof.) Go figure. If Blood Type means anything, he's a " B " , which I am as well. (However, I gag when hubby cooks his dead animals.) You know, I wonder if the secret for him is in the fact that he ate little to no processed food for years and years and years...makes ya wonder about those additives!
